Job description

CMT is looking for a collaborative and hands-on Software Engineer II, Backend with 2–4 years of relevant experience to join our Data & Platform group and contribute to the shared engineering capabilities used across CMT.
In this role, you’ll use your experience with Python, REST APIs, SQL, and AWS to build and maintain backend services, work with data and cloud-based systems, troubleshoot technical issues, and take ownership of features from development through testing and delivery. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers to improve code quality, reliability, and the platforms that support CMT’s products.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development teams and product managers to brainstorm software solutions
  • Design both client-side and server-side architectures 
  • Create visually appealing front-end applications 
  • Develop and maintain efficient databases and applications 
  • Create effective APIs 
  • Perform software testing to ensure performance and responsiveness 
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and enhance software 
  • Implement security and data protection measures 
  • Design mobile-responsive features and applications 
  • Complete any additional tasks as they arise 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in Computer Science or related field 
  • 2+ years of relevant working experiences in web application development and programming
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern JS frameworks like React or Angular
  • Familiarity with the entire web application stack, including APIs and databases
  • Knowledge of Python 
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly 
  • Ability to learn quickly

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, SNS, SQS, RDS/Aurora, or DynamoDB
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, or streaming systems
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized applications
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Terragrunt
  • Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and service observability
  • Knowledge of application and API security
  • Experience with microservices, Docker, CI/CD, asynchronous processing, or messaging systems is a plus
