We are seeking an experienced Senior System Engineer (Automation) to join our Unix Squad. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and optimisation of automation solutions that manage a large fleet of Unix/Linux systems.

You will be part of a collaborative and agile team responsible for automating operational activities such as patching, reboots, configuration management, and system provisioning, while also providing third level support for the platforms and automation tools owned by the squad.

This position offers the opportunity to work with modern automation technologies and contribute to the continuous improvement of infrastructure operations in a complex enterprise environment.

Your Mission

Automation Engineering

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy automation solutions for Unix/Linux environments.
  • Develop reusable, maintainable, and scalable Ansible roles, playbooks, and scripts.
  • Enhance existing automation frameworks and identify opportunities for optimisation and standardisation.
  • Create and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure automation reliability and quality.

Operations Support

  • Provide third level support for Unix systems and automation platforms.
  • Investigate escalated incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long term corrective actions.
  • Improve operational efficiency by integrating lessons learned into automation processes.

Automation & Orchestration

  • Automate configuration management and operational workflows using Ansible, Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), GitLab, CFEngine, and scripting technologies.
  • Implement automated deployment, configuration, and monitoring processes.
  • Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery practices.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with architects, network engineers, system administrators, developers, and operations teams.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand ups, retrospectives, and sprint reviews.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to the technical growth of the team.

Documentation

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation related to automation, infrastructure, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure automation solutions are documented to facilitate knowledge transfer and long term maintainability.

Qualifications

Mandatory

  • Strong expertise in Linux system administration.
  • Solid hands on experience with Ansible and infrastructure automation.
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite.
  • Good knowledge of EfficientIP.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code principles.
  • Familiarity with GitLab and CI/CD practices.
  • Knowledge of Linux storage technologies including LVM, filesystem management, and NFS/shared storage.

Nice to Have

  • Terraform.
  • Kickstart.
  • Podman.
  • HAProxy.
  • Job orchestration and workflow platforms such as VTOM or n8n.
  • ServiceNow integrations.
  • Experience maintaining Perl or PHP automation scripts.
  • Exposure to AI and LLM based tools supporting automation, development, or documentation activities.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Linux Administrator, System Engineer, or Automation Engineer.
  • Proven experience delivering automation solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Experience working within Agile and collaborative teams.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving mindset.
  • Proactive attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Team oriented with excellent collaboration skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of an additional European language is considered an asset.
