We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Product Owner! The Technical Product Owner is accountable for maximizing the value delivered by technical services within the enterprise ecosystem. This role owns the backlog for their product domain and ensures that engineering efforts are aligned to strategic priorities, operational stability, and continuous improvement objectives. The Product Owner partners closely with Product Managers, shared development resources, architecture, and business stakeholders to translate strategic initiatives into executable work. The role is responsible for prioritization, defect management, and ensuring technical services are scalable, reliable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

This is a Remote position.

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position is $110,000 to $120,000, exclusive of bonuses and benefits. Primary Job Functions

Backlog Ownership & Prioritization

  • Serve as the single owner of the development backlog for the assigned technical service(s) or platform capability.

  • Translate strategic initiatives and business requirements into clearly defined development work with measurable acceptance criteria.

  • Prioritize backlog items based on business value, technical risk, regulatory requirements, and dependencies.

  • Maintain backlog hygiene, ensuring items are clearly defined, appropriately estimated, and ready for development.

  • Balance new feature development, defect remediation, technical debt reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Execution & Delivery

  • Own the delivery of development work from planning through completion, coordinating priorities, dependencies, risks, and stakeholder input.

  • Clarify requirements and acceptance criteria for development teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.

  • Accept or reject completed work based on defined acceptance criteria.

  • Remove ambiguity and make timely scope and priority decisions to avoid delivery delays.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Managers to align tactical delivery with strategic roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with Business stakeholders to gather requirements and validate solutions.

  • Work closely with Architecture and Shared Development teams to ensure scalable, compliant solutions.

  • Coordinate crossteam dependencies within the broader ecosystem.

Defect & Service Ownership

  • Own triage and prioritization of defects related to the assigned product area.

  • Ensure appropriate root cause analysis is conducted for production issues.

  • Prioritize remediation efforts to maintain service reliability and performance.

  • Partner with engineering to proactively reduce recurring defects and technical debt.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, tools, and best practices relevant to the product domain.

  • Identify opportunities to improve automation, scalability, integration, and operational efficiency.

  • Use metrics and stakeholder feedback to drive iterative product enhancements.

  • Continuously improve backlog quality, delivery predictability, and team effectiveness.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide clear visibility into backlog priorities, sprint commitments, risks, and trade-offs.

  • Ensure alignment between business expectations and technical delivery timelines.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for product execution within scope.

Ensure Compliance with federal, state and local employment regulations

  • Monitor current and pending legislation; create or update related company policies

  • Review and update the employee handbook annually and as needed throughout the year

  • Develop internal communications and training programs for employees to aid in understanding and applying compliant employment practices

Improve service quality by using AI and digital tools

  • Use approved AI and digital tools to simplify work, improve service quality, and increase efficiency, while validating outputs for accuracy, privacy, and business alignment.

  • Identify and escalate inaccurate information and knowledge gaps, or issues related to digital tools

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

  • Experience in Financial Services or equivalent experience is strongly preferred

  • Minimum 5 years in Business Analyst, Development, Product Owner, Product Manager roles or other related technology experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Agile Development

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Orion, Tamarac, or similar platforms

  • AI Literacy:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use AI tools and technologies in daily work tasks.

  • Requirements include understanding how to craft effective prompts, evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy and appropriateness, and integrate AI tools to enhance productivity while maintaining quality standards.

  • Comfort with learning new AI applications and understanding their appropriate use cases and limitations.

  • As AI technology evolves, continued learning and adaptation to new AI tools and methodologies will be expected.

WEG hires employees and makes decisions about their salary qualifications based on factors such as the role to be performed; educational and professional experience, qualifications, skills and credentials; tenure, cost-of-living and demand for the role in the applicable market. To comply with state, pay transparency laws, we must disclose the entire salary grade. The entire salary grade for those who are classified as this level is $87,400 - $131,100. However, the base salary range bolded above ($110,000 to $120,000) is what we expect to pay as a starting range for this position.
