Most people don't think twice about going to the doctor. But for over 85 million uninsured and underinsured Americans — the cashiers, drivers, home health aides, and construction workers who keep this country running — getting care is complicated, expensive, and often out of reach.
Vitable is the health benefits platform designed for every worker. We make it easy for employers to offer real, high-quality healthcare to their teams — not watered-down coverage, but benefits that actually work. It's better for employees. It's smarter for employers. And it matters.
We're a small, passionate team moving fast and solving a problem that genuinely deserves solving. If you're looking for a place where your work has a tangible impact on real people's lives, you've found it.
The Director of Finance owns Vitable’s financial model, board narrative, and the operating rhythm that keeps our close, cash, and capital moving on time.
You’ll build the model that informs how we price partnerships and where we grow. You’ll prepare board and investor materials, lead finance preparation for our Series B, oversee our outsourced accounting partner, and manage cash so the business is ready for its obligations, including payroll.
You’ll report to the Chief of Staff, manage a Controller and Financial Analyst, and work directly with our CEO and leadership team. This is a player-coach role: you’ll set priorities and develop your team while staying close to the work yourself. It carries substantial trust, ownership, and visibility at a consequential stage for the company.
We expect our finance leadership needs to evolve after our next raise. This role offers the opportunity to help shape that future, with scope determined by the person’s experience and impact.
Financial Modeling: Build and own the company model, including partnership economics and unit economics. Bring strategic judgment to the assumptions and help leadership understand what the numbers mean for pricing and growth.
Board and Investor Reporting: Prepare board slides, the board data pack, and investor updates. Make the calculation methodology and movement of money between entities clear and defensible. Lead the move toward a consolidated board reporting model using Coefficient.
Corporate Finance and Fundraising: Prepare financial materials for our Series B, manage diligence requests, and oversee company equity and the cap table.
Gross Margin and Revenue Recognition: Own monthly gross margin analysis, including TPA fee corrections. Partner with our accounting advisors and leadership on consistent, defensible treatment of revenue, ARR, and gross margin.
Treasury and Cash Management: Manage cash across our operating accounts. Set the cadence for transfers, anticipate funding needs, confirm payroll is covered before approving twice-monthly runs, and manage the time-sensitive end-of-month cash sweep.
Vendor and Tax Oversight: Own the relationship with Graphite, our outsourced accounting partner, and evaluate alternatives as needed. Review the closed books and oversee corporate tax filings prepared by our outside firm.
Team and Finance Operations: Manage and develop a Controller and Financial Analyst. Set priorities, keep critical work on schedule, and help each person grow their scope. Manage the WTI relationship and monthly reporting, and run the biweekly Finance Call.
We’re hiring for judgment, rigor, and the ability to work across both strategic and operational finance. There are two paths into this role, and we’d be glad to talk to you from either one.
Path A: You’ve led finance at a company of similar size. You’ve owned the model and the day-to-day finance function, worked through imperfect systems, and helped leaders make decisions with the numbers. You’re comfortable moving between board materials and the details that keep the business running.
Path B: You’re coming from investment banking or a similar transaction-focused role. You build rigorous models, know your way through diligence, and want to move from advising a company to operating within one. You may have less experience with the close, treasury, or people management, but you’re ready to learn those parts quickly with support from the team and our outside partners.
Strong financial modeling skills and the judgment to explain and defend your assumptions.
Fundraising or transaction exposure, including diligence and investor requests. You don’t need to have led a raise.
The ability to turn financial analysis into a clear story for executives, board members, and investors.
Enough accounting fluency to review closed books, ask sharp questions, and catch issues before they reach leadership. A CPA is not required.
Careful planning and follow-through, especially when cash movements and deadlines matter.
Clear communication, sound judgment under pressure, and discretion with sensitive financial information.
Genuine interest in Vitable’s mission of making healthcare simple, human, and accessible.
Experience with treasury, multi-entity accounting, outsourced accounting partners, healthcare or employee benefits, recurring revenue metrics, or people management would be valuable. We don’t expect one person to arrive with all of it. Familiarity with QuickBooks, Ramp, Mercury, Slash, or Coefficient is helpful, but the tools are teachable.
This role is remote, with core hours aligned to U.S. Eastern time.
We believe in taking care of the people who take care of our members.
Here's what that looks like:
100% Silver Plan medical coverage — plus dental and vision
Vitable Primary Care membership — the same care we give our members, yours too
401(k) and life insurance
Unlimited PTO — and we actually mean it
Remote-first — work from wherever you do your best thinking
MacBook and home office setup stipend — the gear you need to do great work
Competitive equity — you're building something real, you should own a piece of it
*above benefits are for Full Time US-Based Employees, please talk with the hiring team for options otherwise
We don't have a big corporate machine behind us. What we have is a clear mission, a lot of heart, and a deep sense of urgency about the problem we're solving. That means we move fast, figure things out, and hold ourselves to a high bar — not because someone's watching, but because we care.
You'll thrive here if you're the kind of person who:
Feels personally connected to making healthcare more accessible
Gets energized by building, not just maintaining
Can navigate ambiguity without losing momentum
Does the unglamorous work when it needs doing — and does it well
Asks for help when you need it and offers it when you see someone else does
Cares about the details, but keeps sight of the bigger picture
We're a team that shows up for each other. We celebrate wins together, work through hard problems together, and genuinely like each other. If something feels off, we say so. If someone's struggling, we notice.
No egos. No jerks. Just good humans doing meaningful work — and having fun doing it.
The people we serve are diverse — and our team should be too. We're committed to building a workplace where different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives aren't just welcomed, they're essential to the work.
Vitable is an equal opportunity employer. We don't hire to check boxes. We hire people who care about what we're building and bring something real to the table.
If this role excites you but you don't meet every requirement on the list, please apply anyway. We mean that.
