Your new role

This role provides senior HSEQ leadership across Ramboll’s EPC/EPCM project portfolio in Ramboll Americas, supporting the safe delivery of complex engineering, procurement, construction management, commissioning, and turnover activities. The role is responsible for establishing consistent HSEQ governance, aligning contractors and project teams, supporting high-risk work planning, and enabling effective execution across multiple concurrent projects. The successful candidate will bring significant hands-on experience from large-scale EPC/EPCM construction environments and will be able to operate confidently at both strategic and field execution levels.

The ideal candidate will be a credible HSEQ leader with significant field experience on large-scale construction or EPC/EPCM projects, strong contractor management capability, and the confidence to influence senior project, client, and contractor stakeholders. They will be comfortable working across multiple projects, balancing strategic governance with practical field-based support, and helping project teams create consistent, risk-based HSEQ execution.

Your key responsibilities will be:

Strategic HSEQ Leadership

• Lead the development of a portfolio-wide HSEQ approach that enables consistent standards, scalable processes, and project-specific execution across all EPC/EPCM projects.
• Serve as primary HSEQ advisor to Project Directors and EPC/EPCM leadership teams.
• Drive adoption of Ramboll’s HSEQ program and translate its expectations into practical project-level behaviours, controls, and leadership routines.
• Provide strategic HSEQ guidance during proposals and contract negotiations to align client expectations and establish the conditions needed for effective safety management.
• Provide HSEQ leadership within an EPC/EPCM delivery model, ensuring clear boundaries, responsibilities, and interfaces between Ramboll, clients, construction contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Safety Program Organization & Implementation
• Define HSEQ organization structures that are scalable with the ability to support multi-project EPC/EPCM delivery on a nationwide basis.
• Clarify roles, responsibilities, interfaces, and governance models required for integrated EPC/EPCM/ safety programs.
• Establish standardized HSEQ execution plans across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
• Establish construction readiness expectations, including contractor mobilisation, competency assurance, risk review, and field execution controls.

• Contractor & Multi-Party Coordination

• Align HSEQ expectations, execution standards, and performance requirements across contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and third-party stakeholders.
• Lead contractor onboarding, alignment sessions, audits, and recurring performance reviews.
• Ensure HSEQ requirements are embedded into contracting strategies, procurement packages, bid documents, mobilisation plans, and contractor management processes.
• Support project teams in translating Ramboll and client HSEQ requirements into practical field execution requirements for contractors and subcontractors.

• Risk Management, Governance and Assurance

• Provide governance and assurance over EPC/EPCM risk management processes, including hazard identification, construction risk assessments, high-risk work reviews, and site controls.
• Support project HSEQ resources and project leadership in establishing consistent risk management expectations, while ensuring accountability remains clear within the project delivery structure.
• Review and challenge the effectiveness of controls for high-risk activities, including lifting, electrical work, confined space entry, work at height, ground disturbance, energisation, commissioning, and simultaneous operations.
• Provide oversight, escalation support, and subject matter input for high-potential or higher-severity incidents, ensuring investigations are completed and lessons learned are embedded across relevant projects.
• Conduct site visits, leadership engagements, and assurance reviews to verify that project HSEQ controls are effective, understood, and consistently applied by the relevant project teams and contractors.

• Safety Culture & Engagement

• Demonstrate visible HSEQ leadership that builds trust, accountability, and proactive safety behaviours across project teams and contractors.
• Coach project and contractor leadership teams to strengthen leading indicators, reinforce expectations, and promote consistent safety leadership.
• Promote open communication, psychological safety, learning, and continuous improvement across the EPC/EPCM project portfolio.

• Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

• Provide oversight of compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations, client requirements, and Ramboll HSEQ standards across EPC/EPCM projects.
• Support project teams in translating regulatory and contractual HSEQ requirements into practical controls and assurance activities.
• Represent Ramboll in client audits, regulatory inspections, and EPC/EPCM governance meetings, ensuring actions are effectively tracked, communicated, and closed.

• Performance Management & Reporting

• Establish consistent HSEQ performance reporting across EPC/EPCM projects, using leading and lagging indicators to identify trends, drive accountability, and improve performance.
• Translate performance data into clear insights, actions, and recommendations for project leadership, clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

About you

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive on-site HSEQ leadership experience with substantial large-scale EPC/EPCM project exposure.
• Strong background supporting multi-contractor, high-risk industrial construction environments.
• Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority.
• Proven experience supporting construction management delivery models where HSEQ performance is delivered through contractor execution and strong client/contractor interface management.
• Working knowledge of construction-phase HSEQ controls, contractor management, incident investigation, assurance, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to travel regularly to project locations and engage effectively with field teams, project leadership, clients, and contractors.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred:

• Professional certifications (CSP, CMIOSH, NEBOSH, CRSP, or equivalent).
• Experience with energy transition, power, renewables, industrial de-carbonisation, chemicals, manufacturing, mining, or major infrastructure projects.
• Experience supporting owner’s EPC/EPCM models across multiple concurrent projects.
• International or remote project experience.

Salary Transparency Statement

At Ramboll, we are committed to fair and transparent compensation practices that support our people and our purpose of creating sustainable societies. The anticipated base salary range for this position is $136,497 - $197,515 per year. This range reflects the compensation we reasonably expect to offer at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and internal equity. Because we operate across multiple U.S. markets, pay may differ depending on the cost of labor in specific locations. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for bonus, overtime or other forms of compensation and we offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports well-being, professional development, and work-life balance.
