Senior Software Engineer

Work with product managers, other developers, testers, designers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and acceptance criteria, identify risks, and translate into effective outputs

Conduct code peer reviews to ensure the quality of the codebase for React-Native and Github Actions YML code are maintained across the team

Fulfill Engineering Lead duties when circumstances necessitate

Ensure front end code changes are fully accessible for screen readers, voice control, and other accessibility suite compliance is followed

Troubleshoot and debug complex software issues

Build strong relationships with client stakeholders and serve as a trusted advisor on quality, engineering, accessibility, and risk

Communicate engineering approaches, findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

Develop a strong understanding of client needs, objectives, constraints, and priorities and align coding strategies accordingly

Identify responsible AI-enabled approaches that can improve customer value, quality, or efficiency without compromising trust or rigor

Help establish and reinforce strong software engineering practices, including code quality, technical design, testing, documentation, accessibility, security, and sustainable development workflows

Share technical knowledge, tools, approaches, and effective AI practices with teammates to strengthen engineering capability and consistency

Contribute to technical sprint planning and help teams make sound engineering decisions and delivery goals

Identify and help address technical, delivery, or team challenges, proactively surfacing risks and contributing to constructive solutions

Contribute to the evolution of MO’s engineering practices by identifying opportunities to improve methods, tools, processes, architecture, and ways of working

Model supportive, inclusive, constructive, curious, and accountable behaviors across teams 

Contribute meaningfully to company initiatives, communities of practice, and other efforts that improve how MO delivers work

Contribute engineering and technical expertise to proposals, engagement planning, solution development, and other growth activities as appropriate

Identify opportunities to use engineering expertise, AI, automation, or emerging technologies to create scalable capabilities, improve efficiency, or strengthen MO’s offerings

Share insights from client work and the broader industry to help MO identify new opportunities, improve our approaches, and strengthen our value proposition

6+ years of engineering experience, with significant experience designing, developing, and delivering complex software systems

Experience working with the federal government, with prior VA experience preferred

Proven delivery: track record of independently owning complex technical work, scoping projects, solving problems, and delivering high-quality software with minimal guidance

Technical expertise: strong experience designing and implementing software using technologies such as React Native, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, AWS, Bash, GitHub Actions, and test automation suites

Software architecture: experience designing complex software, scoping projects, and leading productive code and design reviews

Product collaboration: experience working closely with product and design teams to understand user requirements, use cases, and technical considerations and translate them into effective software solutions

Quality and compliance: experience incorporating accessibility, privacy, security, monitoring, and PII protection into software design and development

Mobile development: experience with mobile application development and release processes across iOS and Android

AI & automation: demonstrated ability to use AI and automation to improve workflows, reduce manual effort, increase quality, or improve delivery effectiveness

Technical leadership: ability to lead and mentor engineers with empathy, provide thoughtful technical guidance, and support individual skills growth

Client and team collaboration: strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and work effectively across engineering, product, design, and stakeholder teams

Growth mindset: willingness to contribute beyond assigned project work through company initiatives, knowledge sharing, practice development, and growth activities

Experience contributing to complex applications in regulated or highly controlled environments

Experience with React Native

Experience developing automated mobile testing frameworks or CI/CD testing workflows

Experience using AI-enabled development tools or developing AI-assisted approaches
