Accounting Manager | Remote
We’re looking for an Accounting Manager / Lead Accountant who goes beyond reviewing numbers—they understand what the numbers are telling them.
The ideal candidate is naturally analytical and curious. When a recurring expense suddenly changes, a balance disappears, or an account doesn’t reconcile as expected, you don’t simply accept the report—you ask questions, investigate the underlying activity, and validate that the financials are accurate.
This is a hands-on accounting leadership role for someone who enjoys financial statement review, quality control, problem-solving, and developing accounting teams and processes.
About the Role
As the Accounting Manager / Lead Accountant, you will serve as the primary accounting resource for our bookkeeping department and help ensure that client financials are accurate, complete, and ready for delivery.
We currently support approximately 35 bookkeeping clients and continue to grow. You will initially manage a portfolio of approximately 10–15 clients while performing limited production work. As the team grows, the role will transition toward technical accounting oversight, quality control, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Review client financial statements before delivery
- Analyze balance sheet accounts for discrepancies, unusual activity, and unsupported balances
- Identify trends, inconsistencies, and accounting issues that require follow-up
- Review bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and supporting documentation
- Ensure financial statements are accurate, complete, and client-ready
- Own the month-end close review process for bookkeeping clients
- Investigate unusual or unexpected changes in financial activity
- Escalate significant accounting issues to management when appropriate
- Supervise, support, and provide technical guidance to bookkeeping staff
- Train and mentor team members on accounting practices and quality standards
- Serve as the primary accounting resource for the bookkeeping department
- Maintain and improve quality control standards and review procedures
- Assist with cleanup and catch-up projects as needed
- Initially manage approximately 10–15 clients, with production responsibilities decreasing as the team grows
- Help develop, document, and improve accounting processes and best practices

The Accounting Manager provides the technical accounting oversight and quality control that connects these functions and ensures the final financials meet our standards.

Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, CAS, outsourced accounting, or public accounting
- 2+ years in a reviewing, supervisory, or accounting leadership role
- Strong QuickBooks Online (QBO) experience
- Strong financial statement and balance sheet review skills
- Experience reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
- Ability to independently identify accounting issues and discrepancies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with U.S.-based clients
- CAS, outsourced accounting, or public accounting experience
- Experience managing multiple clients
- Experience improving accounting processes and internal controls
- CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent certification
- Experience supporting or leading team growth
Schedule
- Fully remote
- Full-time
- Initial onboarding requires availability during U.S. Eastern Time hours
- Ongoing collaboration during Eastern Time business hours is required
- Additional flexibility may be available once fully onboarded
