Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Voice AI Systems Development: You will build, extend, and support conversational voice AI features on Clarus's CIVR (inbound) and Engage (outbound) platforms, working with telephony infrastructure (Twilio/Telnyx, LiveKit), speech-to-text/text-to-speech services (e.g., Deepgram), and LLM integrations to improve call flow logic, caller authentication, escalation and warm-transfer behavior, and conversational accuracy.
• General Platform Engineering & EHR Integrations: You will contribute to the broader Clarus platform, including backend services, EHR integrations (e.g., athenahealth, NextGen, Oracle Health/Cerner), and data pipelines that support revenue cycle and patient communication workflows.
• Collaboration, Testing & Documentation: You will participate in code reviews, write and maintain tests, document technical designs, and work closely with the VP of AI Engineering and cross-functional teams (product, compliance) to ship reliable, well-tested features.
• Production Support & Continuous Improvement: You will help monitor and troubleshoot production issues affecting voice AI and platform systems, participating in light on-call support as needed and contributing to root-cause analysis and long-term fixes.

Education Requirement(s)

• No specific degree is required; equivalent skills gained through coursework, bootcamps, self-directed learning, or personal/open-source projects are acceptable
• True entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply; 0–2 years of professional or applied project experience in software engineering (including internships, coursework projects, or personal projects) is acceptable

Technical Requirement(s)

• Working proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js)
• Understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, and integrating with third-party services
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows (code review, pull requests, CI/CD)
• Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts (AWS preferred)
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new technologies quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written communication and self-management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a fully remote, asynchronous environment

Voice AI & Healthcare Technology (“PREFERRED” Qualifications/Requirements)

• Experience or interest in speech-to-text/text-to-speech technologies (e.g., Deepgram) or LLM/AI integration (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini APIs)
• Exposure to healthcare technology, EHR systems (e.g., athenahealth, NextGen, Oracle Health/Cerner), or HIPAA-regulated environments
• Understanding of HIPAA and protected health information (PHI) handling requirements
• Experience with data pipeline or ETL work, including structured healthcare data formats (e.g., EDI/X12 remittance or claims files)
• Experience working in a startup or growth-stage environment
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize across competing priorities
• Coachable, curious, and motivated by both individual performance and team contribution
• Self-starter with a problem-solving, outcomes-based mentality

This is a fully remote position. The employee must maintain a dedicated, secure home workspace with reliable high-speed internet sufficient to support video calls and continuous access to company systems, consistent with Clarus Care's remote work and information security policies. Because Clarus Care operates as a HIPAA Business Associate, the employee must be able to handle protected health information (PHI) in a private setting appropriate for confidential work. This role routinely uses standard remote-work equipment such as a computer, headset, and video conferencing tools. Occasional travel (e.g., for team offsites or company meetings) may be required.
