Job description

Bookkeeper (Remote, Part-Time to Full-Time)

BookSmarts Accounting

About Us

BookSmarts provides accounting and bookkeeping to more than 200 clients across the U.S., with a specialty in franchise accounting at both the franchisor and franchisee levels. We're a fully remote, woman-founded firm built on a simple idea: skilled professionals, including those returning to the workforce, deserve careers with real flexibility and real growth. Our team works from home, sets schedules around life, and advances by doing great work.

Position Overview

You'll provide bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, keeping the books accurate, current, and closed on time each month. You'll work alongside bookkeepers, accountants, and our data entry team. This role fits someone with solid bookkeeping experience who wants to keep growing in accounting, whether toward senior bookkeeping, accounting, or beyond.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients, including multi-location franchise businesses
  • Complete monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Meet month-end close deadlines consistently
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for review
  • Process accounts payable and receivable
  • Support payroll processing as needed
  • Respond to client questions clearly and promptly, and flag issues before they become problems
  • Document client procedures in our systems so work is consistent and easy to hand off

Required Qualifications

  • Bookkeeping experience with demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles
  • Proficiency in accounting software; QuickBooks Online preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining team connections

Our Values in Action

  • Fearless: You take initiative, ask the hard question, and raise a problem as soon as you see it.
  • Kind: You assume good intent, communicate clearly, and make your teammates' jobs easier.
  • Precise: Your reconciliations tie out, your classifications hold up, and your work is right the first time.
  • Unconventional: You look for a better way to do repetitive work and share what you find.
  • Smart: You use judgment, know when to research, and know when to ask.

Work Environment

  • 100% remote position
  • 20-40 hours weekly (minimum 20 hours required)
  • Flexible scheduling, with at least 70% of your hours worked between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM Mountain Time so you overlap with clients and teammates
  • Applicants outside the US are not eligible for this position.

Benefits

  • $18-25 per hour based on experience
  • 401(k) eligibility after working 1,000 hours in your first year
  • Paid time off accruing for hours worked over 20 hours per week
  • Professional development resources
  • Supportive team environment valuing work-life balance and career advancement
