Project Manager

Project Manager Job Responsibilities:

The role of the Project Manager is to lead/manage the top corporate priority projects from inception to completion, to ensure the output of the project meets the specific success criteria and business objectives.  

• Define scope, goals/success criteria and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with executive sponsor and stakeholders.

• Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.

• Effectively communicate project expectations to team members/stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.

• Liaise with stakeholders on an ongoing basis.

• Work with delivery leads to estimate/obtain the resources needed to achieve project goals.

• Draft and submit budget (capital or opex) proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.

• Negotiate with other department leaders for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.

• Set and continually manage program/project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.

• Swiftly identify and resolve issues/conflicts within the program/project teams.

• Identify and manage dependencies and critical path.

• Plan and schedule program/project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.

• Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.

• Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.

• Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.

• Define/disseminate success criteria to involved parties throughout project life cycle.

• Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.

• Conduct project retrospectives and document lessons learned and improvement actions.

 Project Manager Qualifications / Skills:

• Ability to lead through influencing project teams, that you have no direct authority over, to deliver results and in some cases 

Leadership and Influence

  • Lead cross-functional teams without direct authority, gaining cooperation and driving projects toward successful outcomes.
  • Influence stakeholders across leadership, client groups, project teams, and other departments.
  • Navigate organizational dynamics with diplomacy and sound judgment.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across functions and organizational levels.
  • Gather customer and user input, simplify complex topics, and prepare concise summaries for executives and stakeholders.
  • Negotiate effectively, resolve conflict constructively, defuse tension, and maintain productive working relationships.

 
Execution and Judgment

  • Work independently, demonstrate initiative, and develop effective approaches to new assignments.
  • Manage competing priorities and exercise sound judgment under deadline pressure.
  • Adapt to change, operate effectively amid ambiguity, and remain composed in challenging situations.

 
Technical Understanding

  • Understand the technical aspects of assigned programs and projects.
  •  Ability to actively drive cross functional project teams and ensure program/project success criteria are met.
  •  Ability to communicate orally and in writing - across functions and teams, up and down the chain of command. 
  • Ability to listen and gather customer/user inputs, simplifying complex topics for non-technical audiences and prepare quick pointed summaries for executives and stakeholders
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict constructively and maintain effective working relationships across stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work under limited supervision, display initiative and determine innovative methods by which to complete new assignments.
  • Ability to understand technical aspects of the assigned program/projects.
  • Ability to adapt to change and deal with ambiguity
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments.
  • Ability to bring project to successful completion through political sensitivity.
  •  Manage competing priorities and maintain sound judgment under deadline pressure

Education and Experience Requirements:

• BA, BS or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Project Management, Operations Management, or Information Technology

• Ability to understand technical requirements, dependencies, and implementation tradeoffs relevant to assigned projects

• 5+ Years Technical Project Management Experience

Highly Desirable:

• Experience with product rollout & lifecycle projects

• Experience managing systems and/or data integration projects

• Experience managing system consolidation projects, data cleanse, transformation & migration, and process consolidation

• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

• PMP Certification

• MBA

Work environment:

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time.

• Sitting, standing and walking (95-100%) 

• Keyboarding (40-60%) 

• Viewing computer monitor, videophone, and cell phone (40-60%) 

• Lifting computers and other equipment. 

• Position may require some travel.
