Job description

Your team

As a Legal Counsel, you join a stellar legal team that sits close to product and engineering. We're a small, experienced team that works without artificial silos: contracts, compliance, and digital regulation are all handled at the same table.

Day-to-day, you'll work with the wider team on how regulatory requirements translate into features, and with GTM on customer and procurement negotiations.

Your role reports to our Chief Legal Officer, Robert Kilian. Our legal team treats their work as an operating principle rather than an aspiration: running the function as a showcase for what a highly automated, AI-native legal team looks like, and we're at the front of the field by default, not on request.

Most in-house legal roles at a tech company mean advising on a product someone else understands. Noxtua builds Legal AI for lawyers. The product, customers, and regulation are all your home territory. The remit is broad and commercial: enterprise and partner contracts with law firms, corporates, public institutions and international legal publishers. You will be both enabler and guardian; the function is small enough that what you build becomes how we work.

About you

  • Fully qualified German lawyer (Volljurist:in): First and Second State Examination, both with above-average results.

  • At least two years of post-qualification experience in an international law firm and/or in-house — ideally with commercial contracts you drafted and negotiated yourself, not only reviewed. More experience is very welcome; we set the level of the role at offer stage.

  • Commercial contracting: you can own B2B and SaaS agreements end to end, negotiate with enterprise counterparties, and tell which points are worth the fight and which are not.

  • A genuine interest in LegalTech and AI regulation — the Legal Tech market is evolving fast, and so is AI regulation, e.g. EU AI Act, and the professional-secrecy questions specific to legal practice. You do not need to be an expert on day one; you do need to want to become one.

  • You share our ambition to be visibly ahead here: our Legal team takes it as a given that it runs as a highly automated, AI-native function, and you want to help make that the example others in the market look to.

  • Pragmatic and self-directed: you give answers people can act on, you are comfortable where there is no precedent to point at, and you would rather build the playbook than wait for one.

  • Languages: excellent drafting skills in German and English.

Your responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements - enterprise customer contracts, publisher and partner agreements, vendor and procurement terms.

  • Advise Product and Engineering on how legal and regulatory requirements translate into product decisions, early enough in the process to matter.

  • Keep Legal at the front of the field: turn our own function into a working showcase of a fully automated LegalTech department, and make that visible internally and externally.

  • Drive structured analysis of Legal processes to identify automation and AI opportunities and embed them into process redesign.

  • Extend Legal’s AI mandate beyond the function by advising on company-wide AI initiatives from a Legal and regulatory perspective.

  • Build the legal toolkit: templates, playbooks, escalation thresholds and self-service guidance that let the business move.
