Voice & Chat AI Prompt Engineer

This role combines Client Discovery + Conversational AI + Prompt Engineering + Voice AI Platforms. The candidate should be able to understand a business requirement, recommend the right approach, and build and optimize the voice-agent experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct client discovery and requirement-gathering sessions to understand business objectives, processes, user journeys and automation opportunities.
• Translate business requirements into Voice AI conversation flows, prompts, business rules and agent behavior.
• Recommend Voice AI best practices, architecture and suitable platforms based on the use case.
• Design and optimize system prompts, guardrails, fallback and escalation logic.
• Build and configure voice agents and handle real-world scenarios such as interruptions, silence, unclear responses and changing user intent.
• Work with platforms such as Vapi, Retell AI, ElevenLabs, Twilio, Telnyx, Vonage or Plivo.
• Work with LLMs such as OpenAI, Claude and Gemini, and STT/TTS platforms such as ElevenLabs and Deepgram.
• Support integrations using APIs, webhooks, JSON, CRM and automation platforms.
• Test agents using real-world and edge-case scenarios, review transcripts/calls and continuously optimize performance.
• Support UAT, client demos and production deployments.
• Work on multilingual voice experiences including English, Hindi, Arabic and French where required.

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience with Prompt Engineering, LLMs and Conversational/Voice AI.
• Experience building or configuring Voice AI agents.
• Strong conversational design and requirement-gathering skills.
• Understanding of STT, TTS, latency, interruptions, call routing and human handoff.
• Basic understanding of APIs, JSON and webhooks.
• Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work directly with clients and technical teams.

Voice AI: Vapi, Retell AI, ElevenLabs
Telephony: Twilio, Telnyx, Vonage, Plivo, SIP
LLM: OpenAI, Claude, Gemini
Speech: Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Google/Azure Speech
Integration: Salesforce, HubSpot, Qualtrics, n8n, Make

Candidates do not need experience with every platform. Strong hands-on experience with one Voice AI platform + one telephony platform + one major LLM is preferred.

Ideal Candidate

Someone who can take a requirement from:

Discovery → Requirement Gathering → Solution Recommendation → Conversation Design → Prompt Engineering → Voice/Telephony Configuration → Testing → UAT → Production

and independently drive the Voice AI workstream.

Hands-on production Voice AI experience is preferred over purely theoretical Prompt Engineering experience.
