Background

CLEAR Global is powered by a global community of over 200,000 linguists, who give their time and skills to help people access information in the language they understand. Keeping this community informed, connected, and engaged is essential to our work. This happens through online events, ongoing conversations on our Discourse platform, and community-led projects where members work together on shared tasks.

The role

The Community Engagement Intern will help keep CLEAR Global's community active, connected, and well supported. This includes helping to plan and run online events, supporting and moderating conversations on the Discourse platform, and helping community members work together on collaborative projects. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys bringing people together, keeping things organized, and helping a community feel welcoming and well run.

This internship offers hands-on experience in community management within an international nonprofit, and the chance to build practical skills in event planning, online moderation, and community coordination.

  • Keep the community active and engaged: Proactively start and follow up on conversations, identify opportunities for new discussions, and encourage members to contribute, share experiences, and connect with each other.
  • Moderate community conversations: Help keep discussions constructive, inclusive, and respectful, and raise inappropriate content or more sensitive issues with the wider team when needed.
  • Support community members: Help members use and navigate Discourse, respond to questions, and support basic troubleshooting where needed.
  • Support community-led projects: Help set up and coordinate projects where community members work together on shared activities, using platforms such as Discourse and Slack, and regularly follow up with contributors to maintain momentum.
  • Help plan online events: Support the planning of community events, including identifying topics and formats, finding and coordinating speakers, and connecting events with wider community activities.
  • Manage event logistics: Support scheduling, registration, participant communications, preparation, and practical tasks during online events.
  • Track feedback and engagement: Gather feedback and maintain simple records of participation, engagement, and results to help improve future community activities.
  • Provide coordination and administrative support: Help maintain documents, trackers, calendars, and follow-up actions so that community activities stay organized and on track.
  • Other tasks: Take on other community engagement tasks as needed and represent CLEAR Global appropriately throughout the internship.
  • Represent CLEAR Global well: Act in the best interests of the organization throughout the internship.

These roles and responsibilities are approximate and may change over time.
