We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Senior Network Engineer for our IT Critical National Infrastructure Generation teamThis position is located in Hicksville, NY. What you'll do

As Senior Network Engineer, you'll support the overall operation of National Grid's mission critical infrastructure for Generation Operations. You'll participate as a project technical resource to establish standards, content, and procedures for CNI documentation in accordance with company and industry best practices for real time and power generation system applications. You'll also update and create documentation as a contributor to NERC CIP compliance deliverables as a subject matter expert. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist with designing, implementing, and maintaining WAN and LAN infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, resiliency, and scalability.
  • Provide technical expertise and strategic guidance on network architecture, upgrades, lifecycle management, and emerging technologies to meet evolving business needs.
  • Work with team on network projects and complex technical workstreams, acting as an individual contributor to deliver outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation including network engineering standards, configurations, diagrams, low-level designs, implementation records, as-built documents, and operational processes.
  • Support major incidents, problem investigations, and escalations relating to network services or performance, driving troubleshooting to resolution and identifying structural improvements.
  • Support planned network changes and maintenance activities.
  • Optimize system performance by monitoring, troubleshooting issues, and scheduling upgrades to maintain a secure and reliable environment.
  • Secure mission critical systems by establishing and enforcing policies, as well as monitoring access.
  • Implement changes to production, development, stage and test environments.
  • Ensure that configuration and change management processes are documented accurately.
  • Ensure device logging is active and forwarding properly to the appropriate repository.
  • Interact with field engineering and operations groups both within and external to the organization to resolve issues by troubleshooting and utilizing creative problem-solving skills.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide off-hours support for critical incidents and service restoration.
  • Local travel is required, as needed, to support our power stations.
  • Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in LAN technologies, including VLANs, STP, EtherChannel, stacking, redundancy, and QoS.
  • Advanced working knowledge of LAN/WAN networking concepts, topologies and protocols.
  • Experience configuring firewalls, intrusion detection sensors, switches, and other network devices.
  • Competency with network/systems security and information security concepts and technologies.
  • Familiarity with Windows server operating systems, Active Directory, and linux operating systems
  • Experience with programming in any scripting language, such as Power Shell, Visual Basic, or Python
  • Strong troubleshooting & problem-solving skills.
  • Cisco CCNP or CCIE preferred

Salary

$122,000 - $143,000 a year
