The researcher analyzes user signals that may impact company goals together with the product team. The most interesting insights get picked up and worked through end-to-end.
Problem Hypothesis — The team formulates a problem for each insight and gathers as much information as possible about it. The researcher conducts interviews or usability tests with users to pinpoint exactly when and why the problem occurs.
Solution Hypothesis — The team designs several possible solutions, and the researcher validates each one with clients to confirm it meets their needs and is usable. Once validated, the solution moves into development.
By introducing a dedicated UX Researcher role, the company reduces the cost of testing hypotheses and ships functionality users actually expect. Over time, the role grows into organizing and running design sprints, actively coaching the product team to conduct research independently, and acting as an internal research resource for other teams. It also means taking a broad view of how each new product or feature fits into the current product and its future direction — owning changes to customer experience and tracking how the product ultimately reaches customers. Part of the time goes beyond core research into improving discovery processes, e.g., implementing an on-site survey tool or launching a satisfaction metric.
