Job description

Seasonal Customer Service Assistant

  • Remote, UK-based
  • Full-time seasonal role: 1 November to 31 December
  • Potential permanent opportunity for the right person
  • 9am to 5.30pm
  • 5 days per week, including weekends

About Sous Chef

Sous Chef is an online shop for people who love cooking, eating and discovering exceptional ingredients, cookware and tableware.

We sell thousands of specialist products to home cooks, chefs and food lovers across the UK. Christmas is our busiest time of year, and we are looking for three reliable seasonal team members to help us give customers an excellent experience during peak season.

This is a fixed-term seasonal role, but there may be the opportunity to move into a permanent role after the Christmas period. This is not guaranteed, but we are hoping to find someone who could grow with us longer term.

The role

You will help customers with questions about their orders, deliveries, products, returns and replacements.

Most of the work is written customer service — email, helpdesk tickets and online messages — so clear, accurate written communication is very important. You will be part of a small, supportive customer service team and will receive training on our systems, products and ways of working.

We are looking for people who already have some customer service experience and know that they enjoy helping customers. This could be from online customer service, retail, hospitality, or other customer-facing roles.

Experience in ecommerce and/or premium/high-end customer service would be particularly useful.

What you’ll be doing

You will help customers with things like:

  • Order queries and delivery updates
  • Missing, delayed or damaged parcels
  • Returns, refunds, replacements and exchanges
  • Product questions
  • Stock availability questions
  • Special requests during the Christmas period
  • Escalating more complex issues to the permanent customer service team
  • Keeping clear notes and records in our systems
  • Using templates and AI-assisted tools carefully, while checking that every reply is accurate, helpful and personal

What we’re looking for

We are looking for people who are:

  • Experienced in customer service and genuinely enjoy it
  • Excellent written communicators
  • Accurate and careful with details
  • Friendly, calm and helpful
  • Comfortable using computers and learning new systems
  • Organised and able to manage a busy workload
  • Reliable during the Christmas peak period
  • Good at following processes, but confident enough to use common sense
  • Interested in food, cooking or good ingredients — helpful, but not essential

You do not need years of experience, but you should have worked in a role where you have helped customers, guests or clients and understand what good customer service feels like.

Working pattern

This is a full-time seasonal role.

You must be available to work between 9am and 5.30pm, including at weekends, during our Christmas peak period. There is no evening or overnight work.

The role is remote-first, but you must be based in the UK and have a suitable quiet place to work from home.

We will provide all computer equipment but you will need to provide reliable, fast internet access.

Contract length

The role starts on 1 November and runs until 31 December.

There may be the possibility of a permanent role for the right person after the season, but this is not guaranteed.

How to apply

Please complete our application form and upload your CV and a short covering letter.

As part of the application, we will ask a few questions about your availability and customer service experience, and ask you to complete a short written customer-service task. This helps us understand how you write, how you think about customers, and whether the role is likely to suit you.

Apply once. Then go straight to the hiring manager.

After you apply, unlock the direct contact details of the people who actually make the call. A quick follow-up makes you 5x more likely to land an interview.
