Job description

Product Marketing Manager, Events

Austin, Texas | Full-Time

Build the Events Austin Talks About.

Some people market events. Some people live them.

We're looking for someone who wants to immerse themselves in Hearst Austin Media’s event culture and help grow some of the most recognized experiential brands in Central Texas.

This role will serve as the marketing lead for our portfolio of wellness, lifestyle, food, music, and community events, with a primary focus on the Cap10K, Texas' largest 10K and one of Austin's most iconic traditions.

We're looking for someone who wants to be on the course, behind the scenes, at packet pickup, at community runs, at merchandise launches, talking to participants, interviewing runners, capturing content, trying a two-step and weighing in on which burger delights the senses. We need a builder of community and help shaping what these event brands become next.

If you've ever thought, "I wish I could get paid to be obsessed with Austin events," this might be your dream job.

What You'll Do

Be the Voice of the Brand

You'll help tell the story of our events year-round through social media, video, email, digital campaigns and community activations.

You'll interview participants, capture content in the field, showcase event experiences and help audiences feel connected long before race day or event day arrives.

Grow Participation

You'll develop marketing campaigns that drive registrations, ticket sales, attendance, merchandise purchases and repeat participation.

You'll understand who our audiences are, what motivates them and what inspires them to become lifelong fans.

Be Embedded in the Experience

You'll work closely with our Race Director, event producers, creative team and operations leaders. You'll attend planning meetings, community activations, training runs, sponsor events, merchandise launches and race-weekend activities.

You should expect to spend time where the action is happening.

Turn Merch into a Movement

We're investing in merchandise as part of the participant experience.

You'll help launch products, create campaigns, build anticipation and turn our merchandise program into something audiences actively seek out.

Build Community

You'll develop relationships with running clubs, fitness groups, creators, community organizations, local businesses and cultural influencers who help make Austin special.

We want our events to feel like they're built with the community, not simply marketed to it.

You'll Thrive Here If...

You love Austin.

You know what's happening around town before everyone else does.

You naturally take photos and videos at events.

You have opinions about race shirts, medals, event experiences and social content.

You enjoy being around people.

You can comfortably walk up to someone, hand them a microphone and get a great story.

You think community is created one interaction at a time.

You get excited about building something bigger every year.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of marketing, audience development, events, experiential marketing, community engagement or related experience
  • Strong social media and content creation skills
  • Comfortable appearing on camera and interviewing participants
  • Experience building campaigns that drive registrations, attendance, purchases or subscriptions
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as events require
  • Passion for live experiences and community-building

Bonus Points

  • You're a runner.
  • You've worked in sports, wellness, fitness, hospitality, festivals or live events.
  • You've helped launch merchandise programs.
  • You're already active in Austin's running, fitness or event communities.
  • You have video creation and storytelling experience.

What Success Looks Like

A year from now:

  • More people are participating in our events.
  • More people are wearing our merchandise.
  • Our social channels feel alive.
  • Austin sees our brands as part of the community.
  • Participants feel like they're part of something bigger than a single event.

Most importantly, when someone thinks about the best events in Austin, they think about the brands you've helped build.
