Job description

We are sharing a specialised full-time opportunity for experienced Software Engineers with deep expertise in Electron.js, TypeScript, Node.js, and cross-platform desktop application development to build high-performance productivity infrastructure for distributed professional environments.

Selected professionals will help design and scale a cross-platform desktop application operating across macOS and Windows, with responsibility spanning real-time event tracking, offline-first data pipelines, system-level integrations, performance optimisation, and reliable background execution. The role requires strong desktop engineering fundamentals and the ability to build resilient applications that operate efficiently and consistently across operating systems.

Key Responsibilities

Cross-Platform Desktop Engineering

  • Architect and evolve production-grade desktop applications using Electron.js
  • Build consistent application behaviour across macOS and Windows environments
  • Design desktop systems for reliability, responsiveness, and minimal resource consumption
  • Develop background processes and desktop functionality that operate unobtrusively
  • Apply strong engineering judgement when balancing performance, functionality, and platform constraints

Real-Time Tracking & System Integration

  • Build real-time timekeeping and event-tracking systems with precise state management
  • Develop system-level signal collection involving keyboard, mouse, application usage, and related activity data where appropriate
  • Work with operating-system APIs, permissions, background processes, and system hooks
  • Design integrations that remain reliable across different operating-system environments
  • Apply strong privacy and efficiency considerations to activity-monitoring functionality

Offline Data & Backend Integration

  • Develop offline-first data pipelines with reliable background synchronisation
  • Implement conflict-resolution strategies for distributed or intermittently connected environments
  • Integrate desktop applications with backend services and internal APIs
  • Support analytics, reporting, and downstream data workflows through reliable application infrastructure
  • Design resilient data flows that preserve correctness across local and remote execution

Performance, Reliability & Product Collaboration

  • Improve runtime performance, memory efficiency, and fault tolerance
  • Diagnose edge cases involving distributed systems, offline execution, and desktop environments
  • Troubleshoot production issues and identify underlying technical causes
  • Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineering teams to deliver user-facing functionality
  • Contribute to reliable release, deployment, and application lifecycle practices

Ideal Profile

  • 3+ years of professional experience building production-grade desktop applications with Electron.js
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript and Node.js
  • Demonstrated experience designing cross-platform applications for macOS and Windows
  • Hands-on experience with real-time tracking, event streams, telemetry, or activity-monitoring systems
  • Familiarity with operating-system APIs for capturing user or system interactions
  • Deep understanding of performance optimisation in desktop application environments
  • Strong debugging skills and ability to reason through distributed, offline, and platform-specific edge cases
  • Experience building productivity, monitoring, or telemetry-driven applications is advantageous
  • Familiarity with native OS integrations, permissions, background processes, and system hooks is beneficial
  • Strong understanding of security and privacy considerations related to user activity data
  • Experience with Electron auto-update systems, release management, or desktop deployment workflows is advantageous
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Engagement Details

  • Full-time engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Compensation: $150,000–$220,000/year
  • Work will involve Electron.js desktop engineering, TypeScript and Node.js development, cross-platform systems, real-time tracking, and offline-first data infrastructure
  • Responsibilities will include production application ownership, performance optimisation, backend integration, and system reliability
  • Collaboration will involve product, design, backend engineering, and other technical stakeholders
  • Technical priorities and platform requirements may evolve as product needs develop
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
