Job description

ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.

 The Adjunct Faculty member provides high-quality instruction in undergraduate psychology consistent with the mission and vision of the university. This individual demonstrates expertise in psychology, effective online teaching practices, and the application of psychological principles. Responsibilities include facilitating coursework, engaging and supporting students, providing timely feedback, and promoting critical thinking and academic success in an online learning environment. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality instruction, direction, and support for students in the online classroom environment. 

Essential Duties:

A. Provide high-quality instruction, direction, and support for students in the online classroom environment. 

  • 1. Teach up to (24) credit hours per academic year. 

  • 2. Provide rich and timely feedback on student work, being both encouraging and constructively critical. 

  • 3. Provide timely and helpful answers to students’ inquiries regarding course material or academic matters.  

  • 4. Be available for virtual meetings with students one-on-one or in group settings and hold a minimum of two office hours per week.

  • 5. Facilitate and grade all assignments in a timely manner (within 24-72 hours). 6. Enter final course grades after consultation with the Program Director by the CLD deadline. 

  • 7. Alert lead faculty and/or Program Director to any student issues. This includes performance issues (e.g. failing grades, failing to turn in assignments, etc.) and policy violation issues (e.g. plagiarism). 

  • 8. Comply with all pertinent policies and procedures outlined in Abilene Christian University’s Handbook, Faculty Handbook, and those specified by ACU’s College of Learning and Development. 

  • 9. Participate in faculty meetings as able 

  • 10. Provide feedback to the Program Director for program and/or course improvement.

  • 11. Other duties, as assigned and directed by the Program Director.

  • 2. Google Calendar, Mail, Sheets and Docs 

  • 3. Canvas (online learning platform) 

Qualifications: 

A. Professional 

  • 1. A Masters degree from an accredited institution in psychology or a related field is required

  • 2. Instructional experience and working in a team environment, including in an online environment, preferred. 

  • 3. Proficient in APA- 7th edition (formatting, citation requirements, punctuation, etc.).

  • 4. Experience teaching, designing and developing online coursework. 

  • 5. Computer literate in software and internet-based applications. 

B. Personal 

  • 1. Strong communication skills, both written and oral. 

  • 2. Ability to view and manage role and responsibilities in relation to the larger mission, goals, and perspective of the University.

  • 3. Collaborative nature and excellent interpersonal abilities, with the ability to build consensus within cross-functional and multi-purpose teams, as well as diverse groups of people.

  • 4. Outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines. 

  • 5. Highly self-motivated and solves problems, asking for input and initiating solutions as appropriate and reasonable. 

  • 6. Ability to consistently make sound decisions and exercise good judgment in a variety of circumstances. 

  • 7. Capacity to quickly learn new software applications. 

  • 8. Willingness to receive additional training and/or faculty mentoring. 

Physical Demands: 

  • A. The majority of work is performed in front of a computer and on the telephone; must have the ability to use the computer and remain stationary for long periods of time. 

  • B. Manage conversations in person, online, and by telephone. 

  • C. Work well under pressure and manage stress well. 

  • D. Communicate clearly: speak, read, write, and hear clearly to perform essential functions.
