Job description

Mission Lane is combining the power of data, technology, and exceptional service to pave a clear way forward for millions of people on the path to financial success. By attracting top talent and leveraging cutting-edge technology, we’re enabling people to unlock real financial progress. Sound like a mission you can get behind?

We’re looking for a Senior Manager, AML/BSA Officer to own Mission Lane’s AML/BSA Program end to end as our designated AML/BSA Officer, reporting to the Chief Risk Officer.

The impact you’ll make

Behind every credit card account opened through a Mission Lane sponsor bank, including Mission Lane Bank, N.A. (Proposed), is our promise to protect it as carefully as the customer would themselves. It has to hold up against people actively trying to abuse the system. When that defense works, it's invisible: a customer never has to think twice about whether their account, or their identity, is safe, while they keep building toward what’s next. The Senior Manager, AML/BSA Officer is who makes sure it keeps working.

You'll own the execution of the AML/BSA Program from day one. This is a build role: you'll be establishing Mission Lane's second-line AML/BSA function as our bank charter comes online. This is a step change from where we are today. You'll operate with independence, exercising judgment on when a risk needs to go to senior management or the Risk Committee of the Board, and you'll be the person examiners and regulators come to first.

In this role, you’ll own

  • End-to-end execution of Mission Lane’s AML/BSA Program as our designated AML/BSA Officer
  • Suspicious activity investigations, escalations, and SAR filings
  • Independent, second-line judgment on AML/BSA risk, including direct escalation of material issues to senior management and the Risk Committee of the Board
  • AML/BSA risk assessments, and remediation tracked through to closure
  • Regular and ad hoc reporting to senior management and the Board on program effectiveness and SAR activity
  • The primary relationship with examiners and auditors on AML/BSA matters
  • Second-line oversight support for OFAC, fraud, and related financial crimes programs, in partnership with Customer Operations, Risk, and Legal

You’ll thrive in this role if

  • You’ve built or matured an AML/BSA program before, and you know what it takes to earn credibility with examiners, regulators, and business partners at the same time.
  • You operate independently. You know when something needs to go to senior leadership or the Board, and you don’t need a lot of structure to get there.
  • You can turn dense regulatory requirements into guidance the business can actually act on.
  • You know how to be the person asking the hard question, in a way that builds trust instead of friction.
  • You’re motivated by standing up a program from the ground up, not by running one that already exists.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of AML/BSA experience, including 3+ years administering AML/BSA programs and interacting directly with regulators
  • Active CAMS certification
  • Strong knowledge of AML/BSA laws and regulations and financial services regulatory compliance frameworks, including second-line oversight and effective challenge expectations
  • Proven ability to independently manage investigations and SAR filings
  • Experience managing and developing a team of compliance or risk professionals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience delivering executive-level reporting and presentations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
  • Able to work remote, with required travel as needed, approximately ~6+ times per year

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience standing up or maturing an AML/BSA program at a de novo bank or newly chartered institution
  • Experience in a credit card or consumer lending environment
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) for regulatory and Board reporting
  • Experience supporting OFAC or broader financial crimes programs in addition to AML/BSA

About Mission Lane:

Founded in December 2018, Mission Lane is a purpose-driven fintech company based in the U.S., with headquarters in Richmond, Virginia.

It all started with a realization:  nearly fifty percent of the adult population in the U.S. doesn’t have access to a clear line of credit. Most traditional credit card companies either overlook or overcharge this group because they have less-than-perfect credit scores or no scores at all. We decided this just wouldn’t do.

In partnership with our sponsor banks, we offer credit cards under the Mission Lane brand name, with better, clearer terms, and a more refined customer experience than the alternatives available to people working hard to improve their credit. To date, over four million consumers have chosen Mission Lane, earning high customer ratings on Credit Karma for its market segment and industry leading Net Promoter scores.

Mission Lane has cumulatively raised over $600 million of equity from leading investors, including Invus Opportunities, QED Investors, LL Funds, funds affiliated with Oaktree Capital Management, and other leading investors.

Our commitment to a workplace built on respect and dignity is guided by our core value of Unity. We believe that everyone plays a vital role in our shared purpose, and we actively cultivate an environment where all individuals have the opportunity to do their best work. By fostering a culture of empathy and collaboration, we create a strong sense of belonging and support for every team member.

Application Integrity:

Our cardholders trust us with their financial well-being, and this trust starts with the integrity of the people on our team. We're looking for team members who share our dedication to transparency and truth. Please verify that the information in your application is accurate and complete.

Providing any information to Mission Lane that is not completely truthful at any point during the application or hiring process may result in removal from the hiring process, disqualification from future opportunities, withdrawal of an offer or other sanctions for candidates and, in addition for employees, disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
