Job Description:

National Geographic Adult Books creates nonfiction titles for adult readers with an emphasis on history, science, nature, space, health, and travel.
 

The Project Editor will assist in the develop of the outline, making suggestions for big-picture content revisions to content and organization. The Project Editor organizes and leads regular team meetings during the development of the flat plan. This role will manage the delivery and collation of responses from expert reviewers as well as manage the copyediting process among writers, sharing queries and resolving issues as needed. You will manage the proofreading review process among writers, collating all reviews into one document.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Assist as available in developing the outline for the Project;

  • Organize and lead regular team meetings during flat plan development;

  • Oversee delivery and acceptance of manuscripts from writers;

  • Manage review by experts (deliver, receive responses, collate necessary revisions);

  • Manage copyediting review process among writers, sharing queries and resolving issues as needed; and

  • Manage proofreading review process among writers, collating all reviews into one document for delivery to NG.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • A robust understanding of the editorial process, including organizing, writing and editing, and managing the development of a full-length nonfiction book

  • Experience editing and advising writers for nonfiction

  • A strong background in history and writing/editing historical topics for a mass audience

  • MA or higher preferred in a history-related field

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

The pay range for this remote role is $29.90 to $40.05 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
