Job description

HEFTY.GG is a new rewards platform for gamers, built by GAMURS Group. Players link their game accounts, take part in competitions based on games they already play, and earn points they can redeem for real rewards.

We haven't launched yet. That's the interesting part.

You'd be the first community hire on the product. Building the Discord from an empty server, writing the first posts, and being the person players talk to when they have a question or something goes wrong.

We launch with one game first, then add more from there - Old School Runescape is what we are launching with first! That first community is long-established, tightly knit, and has strong opinions about companies showing up in its space. Getting it right matters more than getting it loud.

You don't need to already play it. What we can't teach is the instinct: knowing what a community will find authentic and what it will immediately see through.

What you'll be doing

  • Build, moderate and grow our Discord from zero
  • Be the day-to-day voice on Reddit, X and wherever else players are talking
  • Answer user questions and support enquiries, and escalate what's broken
  • Run competitions and community events day to day
  • Bring player feedback, complaints and sentiment back to the product team
  • Keep relationships warm with the creators and community leaders we partner with
  • Get properly into the game and its community — updates, culture, creators, in-jokes

What we're looking for

  • Experience building or managing an online community, ideally in gaming
  • Excellent written English, and the ability to shift tone between Reddit, Discord and X
  • Comfortable being visible and answering criticism in public without getting defensive
  • Good judgement about what sounds authentic and what sounds corporate
  • Able to work independently — you'll be the only person doing this job
  • Genuine curiosity about a game you may not have played yet

Nice to have

  • Short-form video, graphics or meme-making skills
  • Experience with a product before it launched
  • Relationships with gaming creators or streamers
  • Experience moderating a large or difficult community

Why this one

  • You're first. No inherited community, no existing playbook. You'll shape how HEFTY talks to players.
  • You'll be heard. You'll have real input into what gets built, not a finished product to promote.
  • It grows. One game to start. As we add more, so does this role.
  • Real reach behind you. GAMURS runs sixteen gaming publications, including Destructoid, Prima Games and Pro Game Guides, with around 20 million visits a month.

Honestly, the hard parts

  • It's a product at launch. Things will break, and you'll be the one telling people about it.
  • Roughly half the job is support — talking to individual users about individual problems.
  • Some of the response to a new commercial product entering a long-established community will be hostile. You'll be the one reading it.

Details

  • Full time, remote

How to apply

Send us your résumé, plus two things:

  1. A short introduction — who you are, what communities you've built or been part of, and why this interests you. A few paragraphs is plenty.
  2. A short task. In 300 words, write a post introducing a new rewards platform to a gaming community that is sceptical of companies trying to monetise it. Pick any game community you know well.
