A-Alpha Bio

Biotechnology

A-Alpha Bio is a biotechnology company using synthetic biology and machine learning to measure, discover, predict, and engineer protein-protein interactions. We pursue our mission of improving human health through an internal therapeutics pipeline and by partnering with industry-leading pharmaceutical and technology companies. Current approaches for measuring protein-protein interactions are insufficient for many drug development applications due to low accuracy or throughput. We are a team of synthetic biologists, structural biologists, and next-generation sequencing experts who have come together to remove this industry-wide bottleneck. Our proprietary experimental platform, AlphaSeq, generates high-resolution data to discover rare and effective antibodies, identify degradable neo-substrates for molecular glues, and generate massive protein-protein interaction datasets to map the protein binding landscape. Our AlphaBind platform then leverages these data to train predictive machine learning models to further accelerate the discovery and optimization of high-impact therapeutics. A-Alpha Bio, Inc. was founded in 2017 as a spinout from the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design and Center for Synthetic Biology and is based in Seattle, Washington.

Job description

A-Alpha Bio is an early-stage, rapidly growing biotechnology platform company headquartered in Seattle, WA. We are focused on building the foundational data layer for AI-driven protein engineering. We provide biopharma companies and model builders with access to ground truth experimental datasets, including affinity and structure, for training, benchmarking and validating AI protein models. In parallel, we apply our data and models directly with select partners to engineer next-generation dual-specific and molecular glue therapeutics, and to discover and optimize differentiated biologics.

This role is not open to remote applicants and would require relocation to Seattle, WA.

Starting Salary Range: $94,000 - $117,000 annually

Exemption Status: Exempt

Location Expectations: Hybrid (1-3 onsite days per week)

  • Coordinate closely with internal scientific leads and functional teams to support execution of partnership workplans.
  • Prepare and circulate meeting agendas, materials, and meeting minutes for joint governance meetings, technical updates, and ad hoc partner discussions.
  • Track partnership obligations, milestones, and decision points; flag risks, misalignments, or emerging issues to senior commercial leadership.
  • Support interpretation and execution of collaboration agreements, including scope changes, data-sharing provisions, and reporting requirements, in coordination with other commercial team members.
  • Contribute to the preparation of SOWs, partner reports, updates, and presentations that clearly communicate progress, challenges, and next steps.
  • Communicate status, changes, and forecasts to the Leadership Team.
  • Foster positive, professional relationships with partner teams, promoting trust, transparency, and productive collaboration.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of alliance management processes, templates, and best practices.

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional scientific and business teams.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree (Master’s and/or PhD) in a scientific discipline.
  • MBA degree.
  • Specific experience in alliance management, project management, or scientific program management.
  • Experience in drug discovery, protein science, genomics, machine learning, biologics, large datasets, and/or computational biology.

In 2018, A-Alpha Bio spun out of the University of Washington’s Institute for Protein Design and Center for Synthetic Biology – both communities filled with brilliant and highly entrepreneurial scientists. Since the company’s inception, we have built and scaled AlphaSeq, our high-throughput platform for quantitatively measuring protein-protein interactions at unprecedented scale. What began as a technology for generating large, standardized affinity datasets has grown into a broader data engine for AI-driven protein engineering. New members of the team should expect a fast-paced, highly dynamic, and interdisciplinary work environment. We are building a diverse, meritocratic, and supportive team that shares our values of speaking the truth, shooting for the moon, taking the reins, playing for the team, and improving the world.

A-Alpha Bio is headquartered in a custom designed lab and office space in downtown Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. We are fortunate to be situated in a region that is renowned for its premier outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, climbing, skiing, kayaking, sailing, and more. At A-Alpha, you’ll find many who love the outdoors, but also gamers, amateur chefs, explorers, sports fans, bakers, crafters, photographers, brewers, jetsetters, animal lovers, and artists.
