Job description

UI/UX Director.

Datmos brings together passionate experts who combine creativity and data to craft inspiring eCommerce experiences.

Driven by a shared passion for excellence, we help visionary brands grow by aligning commerce strategy, digital experience, and technology implementation to deliver innovative, data-driven digital commerce solutions.

Datmos is seeking a visionary, hands-on UI/UX Director to lead our digital design team and elevate the quality of our web and e-commerce products. In this executive-level role, you will be the direct manager of our UX and UI designers, serving as the ultimate guardian of design excellence, craftsmanship, accessibility, and technical feasibility.

You are a unique hybrid: a master of UI design with a strong background in front-end development, paired with a deep appreciation for the strategic business value of UX. Beyond creative leadership, you thrive in high-stakes sales pitches, lead strategic conversations with clients, and seamlessly juggle operational realities - including estimation accuracy, capacity planning, forecasting, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Creative & Technical Direction

  • UI & Front-End Bridge: Bridges the gap between design and technical execution, drawing on your front-end expertise to push aesthetic boundaries while respecting web performance, responsive layouts, and technical constraints.
  • Mobile-First Thinker: Implements a mobile-first approach to design that includes responsive websites, mobile applications, and omnichannel experiences. A leader who understands that CX lives across all touchpoints.
  • Data-Driven: Understands how data can make or break a mandate and uses data to inform strategy and approach to any mandate. Is able to read complex data sets and extract insights that are critical for the design process.
  • Design Systems & Architecture: Oversees the creation and governance of scalable design systems, component libraries, Figma Variables, and design tokens to streamline front-end handoffs and scale design system implementations to multiple clients.
  • Platform & E-Commerce Mastery: Provides strategic oversight for complex web projects built on platforms like Shopify and Adobe Commerce, as well as interactive frameworks like react.js, and familiarity with HTML, CSS, JS. The CX Director does not need to be a developer, but must understand the differences, benefits, and challenges between these frameworks as they affect design mandates.
  • Quality & Standards: Enforces strict visual consistency, micro-interactions, motion design standards, and universal accessibility standards (WCAG) across all deliverables.
  • AI Integration & Optimization: Continuously monitors AI advancements and emerging tools to optimize design team efficiency, integrating new technologies into daily workflows and creative direction.

2. Team Leadership & Operations

  • Direct Management & Mentorship: Leads, mentors, and grows a multidisciplinary team of UX and UI designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, autonomy, and craftsmanship.
  • Resource & Capacity Planning: Oversees effort estimation, project allocation, capacity forecasting, and workload balancing to hit deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Budget & Process Optimization: Collaborates with project management to track creative budgets, eliminate delivery bottlenecks, and continuously refine internal design processes.

3. Strategic Client Relationships & Business Growth

  • Sales & Pitching: Plays a leading role in proposals and new business pitches, articulating bold creative concepts, technical viability, and design ROI to win key accounts.
  • Client Advisory & Feedback Leadership: Leads high-level strategic discussions with executive stakeholders, translating business goals into exceptional digital strategies and expertly guiding client feedback iterations.
  • UX Value Advocacy: Demonstrates and communicates the business impact of human-centered design, user research, and strategic UI/UX to both internal teams and external clients.

Qualifications & Key Requirements

  • Experience: 10+ years in digital design (agency environment preferred), with a proven track record in a creative leadership or executive role.
  • UI & Front-End Background: Expert-level UI design skills backed by practical experience in front-end development (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React.js).
  • Tooling & Systems Expertise: Master-level proficiency in Figma (advanced prototyping, variables, auto-layout) and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • E-Commerce Ecosystems: Solid working knowledge of e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Adobe Commerce) and their technical capabilities.
  • UX & Accessibility Literacy: Deep understanding of user research, information architecture, responsive layouts, and WCAG accessibility guidelines.
  • Operational & Financial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to manage team capacity, forecast workload, estimate task effort, and respect project budgets.
  • Client & Pitching Excellence: Exceptional storytelling, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to distill complex problems into compelling client-facing strategies.
  • AI Rapid Prototyping: Open to working with new tools and frameworks to prototype quicker, produce faster, or eliminate steps in the design process without sacrificing quality of output.
