What you'll do:

Viasat is seeking an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer who is passionate about building high-performing web applications using modern technologies. In this role, you'll join a team developing an API-driven, multi-network satellite orchestration platform that delivers real-time situational awareness along with command-and-control capabilities for a global fleet of high-value aircraft.

The day-to-day:
  • Collaborate with a talented team of engineers in an Agile, self-organized Scrum environment to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Partner with teammates to create and refine technical designs, balancing innovation, practicality, and the needs of the moment.
  • Develop and iterate on customer-focused features, embracing feedback and adapting quickly to evolving requirements.
  • Serve as a frontend or backend subject matter expert, sharing knowledge, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing across the technology stack.
  • Work closely with UX designers to create intuitive, efficient, and engaging user experiences.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve our technology, processes, and team culture, helping us grow and innovate together. 
What you'll need:
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing web applications, with experience in one or more of the following technologies: React, Spring Boot, Python, or Go.
  • Strong foundation in computer science principles, including software architecture, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Experience building and deploying solutions in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with microservices architectures and modern distributed systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance as a condition of employment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% as needed. 
What will help you on the job:
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments and contributing to collaborative, iterative software development practices.
  • Familiarity with modern React frameworks and tooling, such as Next.js, TanStack, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with database technologies, particularly Redis, Elasticsearch, TimescaleDB, or other high-performance data platforms.
  • Interest in or experience with UX/UI design and a passion for creating intuitive, user-centered experiences.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and automation frameworks such as GitHub Actions, Ansible, ArgoCD, or similar technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Leadership experience, or a desire to grow into leadership opportunities through mentoring, technical guidance, Scrum leadership, or project ownership. 
Salary range: $117,000.00 - $185,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $145,000.00- $218,000.00/ annually  : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
