Job Description Summary:
The Vice President, Government Affairs is the company's senior executive leader responsible for government affairs, public policy, and regulatory advocacy across the company's health IT, EHR, and AI portfolio. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, this role develops proactive federal and state government affairs strategies; builds relationships Job Evaluation Request Form with policymakers and regulatory agencies; represents the company with government officials, industry associations, and external coalitions; and advises executive leadership on legislative, regulatory, and political developments that may affect the company's products, customers, and business strategy.
The VP, Government Affairs serves as a trusted advisor to the CLO, C-suite, Product, Engineering, Clinical, Compliance, and other business leaders, translating complex policy developments into actionable business strategies. The role is responsible for establishing the company's government affairs agenda, anticipating emerging policy risks and opportunities, and positioning the company as a credible and influential voice in the development of healthcare technology and AI policy.
Government Affairs & Public Policy Strategy
Develop and execute the company's enterprise government affairs and public policy strategy across federal and state legislative and regulatory environments. Establish policy priorities related to health IT, EHR certification, artificial intelligence, ambient clinical intelligence, health data privacy, interoperability, information blocking, healthcare reimbursement, and other issues affecting the company's products and customers. Anticipate emerging policy developments and proactively develop strategies to influence outcomes.
Federal & State Government Relations
Build and maintain senior-level relationships with federal and state policymakers, regulators, and government agencies, including ASTP/ONC, HHS, CMS, FTC, FDA, congressional committees, state legislatures, state agencies, and other relevant government stakeholders. Represent the company's interests in meetings, briefings, policy discussions, and other government engagements.
Regulatory & Legislative Advocacy
Lead the company's response to proposed legislation, regulations, guidance, and policy initiatives affecting healthcare technology and AI. Develop policy positions, coordinate 15% This description is general in nature and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Executive, Legal & Product Policy Advisory
Serve as the company's senior government affairs and public policy advisor to the CLO, C-suite, Product, Engineering, Clinical, Compliance, and other business leaders. Translate complex legislative and regulatory developments into business implications, product requirements, risk considerations, and strategic recommendations.
Industry Coalitions & External Representation
Develop and lead relationships with healthcare, technology, AI, and digital health trade associations and coalitions. Represent the company in industry policy initiatives and establish strategic partnerships that advance the company's policy priorities. Direct and manage external lobbying firms, government affairs consultants, and policy advisors.
Executive & Board Advisory
Advise the CLO, executive leadership, and Board of Directors regarding political, legislative, and regulatory risks and opportunities, including emerging AI regulation, state privacy and consent requirements, health IT policy, reimbursement policy, and other developments that may affect the company's strategy.
Bachelors Degree: Political Science, Public Policy, Law, Healthcare Policy
Masters or Juris Doctorate (preferred): focus in Healthcare or Tech Law
12+ years of progressive experience in government affairs, public policy, regulatory affairs, public affairs, or related external affairs roles, with significant experience in healthcare, health technology, AI, technology, or another highly regulated industry
Demonstrated experience developing and executing federal and/or state government affairs strategies and engaging directly with policymakers, regulators, and government stakeholders
Strong understanding of healthcare technology policy, AI regulation, health information privacy, interoperability, health IT certification, and applicable federal and state legislative and regulatory environments
Experience representing an organization with government officials, industry associations, coalitions, or other external stakeholders
Experience managing external consultants, lobbying firms, government affairs advisors, or policy organizations
Exceptional strategic judgment, executive communication, policy analysis, relationship management, negotiation, advocacy, and ability to influence without direct authority
