Job Description Summary

GSI NAM Service Resident Engineer serves as the primary technical partner and on-site GE Vernova representative for a Utility Customer. Embedded at the customer’s facility, the Resident Engineer is responsible for the long-term reliability, performance, and maintenance strategy of the AC Substation installation. This role acts as the bridge between the customer’s operations team and the broader GE Vernova engineering and support organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

  •  Emergency Response: Serve as the primary on-call technical point of contact. Provide immediate assessment, troubleshooting, and coordination for critical system failures or unplanned outages, ensuring rapid restoration of service while maintaining safety and operational integrity. 

  • On-Site Technical Authority: Act as the primary on-site resource for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and technical inquiries regarding AC Substation equipment, including switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and control infrastructure.

  • SCADA, Control & Protection Support: Provide expert technical support for Substation Control and Protection systems. This includes managing and troubleshooting SCADA communication architectures monitoring DFR event reports, and maintaining the integrity of protection relay schemes.

  • Operating & Maintenance (O&M) Procedures: Assist in the development of comprehensive O&M procedures, including: i) Normal and emergency operating procedures. ii) Switching, clearance, and temporary earthing procedures. iii) Supporting the creation of maintenance procedures required for the repair of all "Covered Equipment."

  • Training & Mentorship: Provide mentorship and hands-on training to customer personnel as required. Identify, develop, and deliver formal training programs, ensuring that all Contractor-provided documentation is accurate and reflects current site "As-Built" designs.

  • Maintenance Execution: Ensure all scheduled maintenance work is executed effectively and in accordance with the agreed-upon Annual Work Plan. Assist in developing optimized work methods to improve efficiency.

  • Spare Parts Management: Review spare part lists, inventories, and specifications; provide recommendations for missing or damaged components. Assist in the inspection and testing of spare parts to ensure they are preserved to manufacturer standards and "ready for installation."

  • System Reliability & Optimization: Proactively monitor substation performance data to identify potential failure modes before they result in outages and provide ongoing system health diagnostics.

  • Relationship & Advocacy: Serve as a trusted technical advisor to the customer’s management; act as the primary liaison to facilitate communication between the site and GE Vernova’s regional engineering centers.

  • EHS Leadership: Champion EHS standards on-site, ensuring all maintenance activities comply with safety requirements and that high-voltage risks are properly mitigated.

  • Ideally, the candidate will be located in Metro NY city or Northern New Jersy

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related technical discipline 

  • 5 years of experience supervising high-voltage substations

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven field experience 

  •  Be available for work on project sites in US.

  • Ability to read and interpret (SLD, general arrangement drawing, installation and commissioning procedures)

  • Strong understanding of EHS requirements for high-voltage project sites

  • High attention to safety, quality, and detail

  • Practical problem-solving in construction environments

  • Ability to work under schedule pressure while maintaining standards

For candidates applying to a Canadian-based position, the pay range for this position is between $101,600-152,300 CAD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
