About the role

Contract | Part-Time | Approximately 15 hours per week | Through December 31, 2026

Archer Review is seeking an experienced NCLEX/NGN Item Writer to support the continued development and enhancement of our nursing school question bank and course-level examinations.

This is a part-time contract opportunity for someone with strong nursing assessment experience who understands what makes a high-quality NCLEX-style question and is especially comfortable developing Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) content. You’ll work alongside our existing contractor team to create and refine assessment content that strengthens clinical reasoning, aligns with nursing curriculum objectives, and prepares learners for NCLEX-style assessment.

What you'll do

In this role, you’ll contribute across several areas of nursing assessment development, including:

  • Write new NCLEX-style questions for Baseline and Summative exams across a range of nursing school courses.
  • Review and revise existing questions for clinical accuracy, clarity, difficulty, quality, and alignment with course content.
  • Develop new NGN standalone items using a variety of NGN question types and formats.
  • Create clinically coherent scenarios that assess skills such as cue recognition, analysis, prioritization, decision-making, and evaluation.
  • Revise QBank questions based on beta testing results and editorial feedback, including adjusting item difficulty, addressing content gaps, and reducing unnecessary overlap or duplication.
  • Develop clear, accurate, educational rationales and appropriate answer options, scoring, or response structures.
  • Incorporate editorial and clinical feedback and revise assigned content through final acceptance.
  • Follow Archer Review’s item-writing standards, style guidelines, workflows, and required content formats.

Qualifications

The strongest candidates will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience writing high-quality NCLEX-style nursing assessment items.
  • Strong experience with Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) item development.
  • Familiarity with multiple NGN item types, formats, and scoring structures.
  • Strong understanding of clinical judgment and the ability to build questions that assess application and clinical reasoning rather than simple recall.
  • The ability to work across a range of nursing school course content and adjust question difficulty to the intended learner level.
  • Excellent written communication skills and exceptional attention to clinical accuracy, clarity, and detail.
  • The ability to independently incorporate feedback and consistently meet established quality standards and deadlines.

What Success Looks Like

You’ll help Archer Review develop launch-ready nursing school assessment content for the Spring 2027 semester. Your work will contribute to:

  • High-quality Baseline and Summative exam content.
  • Stronger QBank questions informed by beta testing and curriculum needs.
  • Expanded availability of NGN practice across the nursing curriculum.
  • Consistent, clinically accurate questions that reflect NCLEX expectations and realistic nursing decision-making.

Engagement Details

  • Type: Independent contractor
  • Expected commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week
  • Contract term: Through December 31, 2026
  • Project timeline: Work will be prioritized throughout the engagement based on course needs, beta testing results, and NGN production requirements.
  • Location: Fully remote
  • Compensation: $75/hour

Archer Review will provide onboarding, item-writing standards and style guidance, assigned curriculum topics and lessons, beta testing feedback where applicable, platform support, and ongoing editorial and clinical feedback.
