Summary

Responsibilities

Keep Epic running smoothly for the clinics and patients who depend on it.

As an Epic Analyst - Ambulatory at Hummingbird, you’ll support the day-to-day health of the EpicCare Ambulatory application for one of our customers. You’ll spend your time diagnosing issues, building and testing changes, and working through project and upgrade work, using data, structured analysis, and system knowledge to turn business needs into reliable, well-documented solutions. Every ticket, build, and optimization is a chance to make care easier to access, and you’ll do it alongside a small, close-knit team that supports your growth.

This is a holistic, well-rounded analyst role rather than pure ticket work. You’ll touch orders, SmartTools, rules, Nova notes, and other ambulatory workflows, contribute to twice-yearly Epic upgrades, and take on optimization and project work as the customer identifies and prioritizes it. Because the team is small, you’ll have real ownership across a range of ambulatory functions and the autonomy to run with your work.

What You’ll Do

  • Diagnose reported issues by analyzing workflows and data, identifying root causes, and looking beyond the surface request to the underlying business need.

  • Gather and document requirements through stakeholder conversations, translating business needs into clear, testable requirements that align with standards and controls.

  • Build, test, and validate changes to EpicCare Ambulatory, including orders, SmartTools, rules, and Nova notes, to ensure they meet expectations without introducing regressions.

  • Execute changes through defined processes to maintain system compliance and auditability, documenting build decisions, test results, and final changes accurately.

  • Contribute to twice-yearly Epic upgrades, supporting testing, validation, and coordination through go-live.

  • Take on optimization and project work as identified and prioritized by the customer, growing into more complex projects over time.

  • Partner with stakeholders at the customer to understand operational context and priorities, and provide clear, timely updates on progress, risks, and impacts.

  • Deliver assigned work in line with SLAs, quality standards, and performance expectations, and support core client delivery activities as needed.

  • Identify opportunities to improve tools, processes, and documentation, and contribute to shared team knowledge.

The Details

  • Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

  • Work Location: Remote. You must work from a location within the United States with consistent Internet service. This role primarily supports a customer on Pacific time, so comfort working Pacific time zone hours is required

  • Work Type: Full-time

  • Compensation: Expected range is $79,000 to $103,000. New hires usually start between $79,000 and $95,000, depending on experience and internal equity. We are open to hiring a more senior-level analyst for the right candidate, with leveling and compensation determined accordingly

  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off; 401(k); parental leave; career development support; and more

  • Travel: 2-3 trips per year for client meetings, training or conferences, or internal strategy sessions

Required & Desired Skills

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of experience delivering scoped analyst work focused on problem solving, requirements gathering, testing, and solution implementation, ideally within Epic.

  • Active Epic Ambulatory certification required at time of hire.

  • Well-rounded experience across ambulatory workflows rather than a single specialty, with the ability to come in and tackle a range of work.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate root causes, synthesize findings, and recommend solutions.

  • Proficiency documenting requirements, test results, and system changes clearly and accurately for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • A customer-service mindset and comfort working as a trusted vendor partner to the clinics and stakeholders you support.

  • Demonstrated autonomy, reliability, and initiative, with the ability to hit the ground running and work independently while knowing when to pull in help.

  • Able to provide on-call support during scheduled times, if required.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with orders, third-party integrations, or interfacing ambulatory orders and results (for example, DISH integration).

  • Experience with medication workflows as they relate to ambulatory.

  • Additional Epic certifications such as Healthy Planet, MyChart, Order Transmittal, or Cadence.

  • Experience on a smaller ambulatory team, a distributed or remote team, or in a start-up or fast-paced environment.

What Helps You Shine

  • Please note that we use both your resume and your written and oral communication throughout the hiring process to understand your fit for this role.

  • Thoughtful, clear responses help us see your attention to detail, your professionalism, and your ability to communicate with care, all skills that are essential for success on our team.

Expectations for Focus & Presence

  • To support patients and each other, this role requires your full attention during scheduled work hours. Our Outside Employment Policy doesn’t allow overlapping work or “job stacking,” so any outside work must happen fully outside your Hummingbird schedule.

  • We’re a camera-ready team, and you’ll need to be on camera during training and when needed during the workday after training ends.

  • We value connection, teamwork, and being present, which is what keeps our patients safe and our team supported. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll feel at home here. If you’re hoping to hold another job during the same hours, this job won’t be the best match.

Growth at Hummingbird

This role is a key part of how we support our customers’ Epic platforms. You’ll receive structured onboarding, coaching, and feedback to build confidence and take on more complex work over time, whether that means deepening your expertise across ambulatory applications, expanding into new workflows and projects, or growing into advanced or leadership roles. Because our team is small and hands-on, there’s real room to own more and mentor others as you grow. At Hummingbird, we believe good jobs should lead somewhere, and that starts here.

A Note on Authentic Interviews

We believe the best hiring conversations are real ones. Notes are welcome, and jotting things down during the call is completely fine. What we ask is that you don’t use AI tools or similar assistance to generate your responses in real time. We’re genuinely trying to get to know you: how you think, how you communicate, and what you’ve experienced. That connection matters to us, and it’s hard to find when answers are scripted rather than interactive.

We’re a team that makes healthcare more human. We’d love to meet the person behind your application.

The Hummingbird Approach
We value a team that brings diverse perspectives and experiences to the work we do. While there are many ways to do this, people who are successful at Hummingbird:

  • Lead with Respect by valuing kindness and working to actively foster an environment of inclusion and respect.
  • Embrace Growth and seek out learning and growth for themselves and support those around them in their growth journey. They bring curiosity and an openness to innovation to all their interactions.
  • Bring a Win Together mentality by approaching conflict directly, listening carefully, and seeking to understand. They problem-solve with the goal of finding successes, not trade-offs, for all involved.

Equal Opportunity Statement

We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic.
