Job description

Summary 

Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator’s research projects. Perform experiments, analyze data and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research.. 

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Design and execute complex research procedures.
  • Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs.
  • Oversee the design and manufacturing of vascular medical devices
  • Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
  • Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
  • Coordinate regional and national collaborators of the principal investigator to facilitate execution of the project.
  • Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation. May serve as primary statistician for area.
  • Develop new methodologies for lab procedures.
  • Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.
  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
  • May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities 

  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.
  • High familiarity with large preclinical animal models of vascular device testing
  • Strong background in bioabsorbable materials
  • In depth vascular anatomy knowledge, knowledge of vascular disease and endovascular interventional management
  •  Vascular medical device manufacturing and testing, alongside knowledge of appropriate international standards
  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Qualifications 

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.  

Minimum Required Education:        PhD in a scientific field       

Preferred Education:    PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field              

Preferred Experience:  At least 1 year post PhD experience in an engineering or scientific field, industry or academic sector. Industry experience in vascular based medical device manufacturing   

Physical Requirements 

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. 

Work Environment 

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. 

Sensory Acuity 

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
