Job description

Our client, SimpleTrials, is growing again!

Fully Remote | Life Sciences SaaS | $170K–$190K OTE

SimpleTrials is a growing, private equity-backed SaaS company serving the global life sciences industry. Our configurable CTMS and eTMF platform helps clinical research organizations, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sponsors, medical device companies, academic research organizations, and research sites manage clinical trials more efficiently.

We’re at an important point in our growth. Our team is intentionally expanding beyond our strong product and engineering foundation and investing in a larger go-to-market organization. We’re looking for a Business Development Representative who wants to do more than step into an established sales playbook; you’ll help us strengthen it.

This role is for someone who enjoys creating opportunity from the ground up: researching the right accounts, opening doors, building credibility, staying close to prospects over time, and turning thoughtful conversations into new customer relationships.

We value urgency, but not activity for activity’s sake. The strongest person in this role will be persistent and highly motivated while also being deliberate about where they spend their time and how they approach a prospect.

What You’ll Do

  • You’ll work closely with our commercial leadership team and collaborate with Marketing, Product, Customer Success, and company leadership to develop and win new business.
  • Proactively identify and pursue prospective customers across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, CRO, academic, nonprofit, and research-site organizations.
  • Build targeted account strategies rather than relying primarily on inbound demand.
  • Research prospective organizations, clinical programs, business priorities, and technology environments before initiating outreach.
  • Develop personalized outreach through email, phone, LinkedIn, conferences, webinars, referrals, and other channels.
  • Open new conversations and build relationships with decision-makers and influencers across the clinical research ecosystem.
  • Qualify opportunities by understanding a prospect’s current systems, operational challenges, clinical programs, stakeholders, buying process, timing, and potential fit with SimpleTrials.
  • Conduct introductory and discovery conversations and increasingly take ownership of opportunities through demonstrations, proposals, pricing conversations, and follow-up.
  • Maintain consistent, professional follow-up through sales cycles that may require patience and multiple touchpoints.
  • Keep Salesforce accurate and actionable, including activity, stakeholders, opportunity details, next steps, timing, and pipeline status.
  • Use prospect and pipeline data to continuously improve how you prioritize accounts and invest your time.
  • Monitor industry developments, clinical trial activity, funding events, company announcements, and other signals that may create an opportunity for SimpleTrials.
  • Represent SimpleTrials at selected conferences, customer meetings, and industry events.
  • Share prospect feedback, competitive intelligence, and market insights with the broader team.
  • Help refine the processes, messaging, and approaches that will support SimpleTrials’ growing go-to-market organization.

What Success Looks Like

  • Success in this role is ultimately measured by net-new-logo Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR).
  • You will create new opportunities rather than wait for them to appear. You’ll develop a healthy pipeline, build trust with sophisticated buyers, and move the right prospects forward with steady, disciplined follow-through.
  • Because we’re growing quickly, success also means being comfortable working in an environment where not every process is fully built yet. You’ll bring ideas, learn from what works, adjust when something doesn’t, and help create a stronger and more scalable business development function as we grow.
  • You’ll know when an opportunity deserves more persistence, when a different approach is needed, when to bring in another member of the team, and when an opportunity isn’t the right fit.

The Ideal Candidate Brings

  • 3+ years of experience in business development, SaaS sales, account development, clinical research, life sciences technology, or a related customer-facing role.
  • Experience in the life sciences, clinical research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, CRO, or related healthcare technology space. Life sciences experience is strongly preferred.
  • Infectious energy from creating new business rather than simply managing an existing book of accounts.
  • Confidence prospecting proactively and initiating conversations where no prior relationship exists.
  • Persistence without being overly aggressive.
  • Discipline to continue prospecting and following up even when results take time.
  • Thoughtful questioning and listens carefully enough to understand what a customer actually needs.
  • Comfortableness operating with some ambiguity and contributing to processes that are still being developed.
  • Ownership mentality and can work independently in a small, fully remote organization.
  • Exceptional communication in writing and in conversation.
  • The ability to engage with senior, technical, and operational stakeholders.
  • Desire to be part of building a commercial organization, not simply inherit one.

The Working Style That Tends to Thrive Here

  • SimpleTrials is growing, and growth takes persistence.
  • There will be accounts that require substantial research before outreach, prospects who need multiple thoughtful touchpoints before responding, and opportunities that develop over a longer period than expected. We’re looking for someone who is willing to keep doing that work consistently.
  • At the same time, we don’t believe success comes from simply moving faster or generating the most activity.
  • A successful person in this role will be intentional: researching before reaching out, listening before pitching, following through when others might move on, and concentrating effort on opportunities that have the potential to become meaningful long-term customers.
  • You’ll bring stamina to the work without sacrificing judgment.
  • Because SimpleTrials serves customers and prospects globally, schedule flexibility is an important part of the role. This is a fully remote position, but you should be comfortable occasionally adjusting your workday to accommodate prospect and client conversations across international time zones.
  • Travel of approximately 20–40% may also be required for conferences, customer meetings, company events, and other business needs.

What We Offer

  • Base salary: $85,000–$95,000
  • Target variable compensation: $85,000–$95,000 tied to net new logo ARR
  • On-target earnings (OTE): $170,000–$190,000
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Retirement plan with company match

Why SimpleTrials?

SimpleTrials is at a stage where individual contributions are highly visible.

You’ll join a small, growing organization that is investing meaningfully in sales, marketing, and customer growth. Rather than becoming one person in a large sales organization, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, influence how we approach the market, and help shape the commercial organization we are building.

You’ll also sell into an industry where understanding the customer matters. Our clients manage complex clinical studies and research programs, and earning their trust requires curiosity, preparation, and credibility.

If you like the combination of new-business development, complex problem-solving, and the opportunity to help build something at an inflection point, this could be a compelling next step.
