About the Role

Are you an experienced Outpatient Facility Coder looking for an opportunity to use your coding expertise in a fast-paced healthcare environment?

As a Coder II, you’ll play an important role in ensuring hospital outpatient services are coded accurately and efficiently. You’ll review clinical documentation and assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes for Same Day Surgery (SDS) and Emergency Department (ED) encounters.

This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented coder who enjoys working with complex medical records, interpreting clinical documentation, and applying outpatient facility coding guidelines to support accurate billing and reimbursement.

What You’ll Do

  • Review clinical documentation to accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes for outpatient facility services.

  • Primarily code Same Day Surgery and Emergency Department encounters.

  • Assign codes for a variety of surgical, diagnostic, and emergency department services based on the documentation provided.

  • Apply current outpatient facility coding guidelines to ensure accurate and compliant coding.

  • Validate APC (Ambulatory Payment Classification) assignments when applicable.

  • Review and resolve coding-related claims scrubber edits to help support clean and accurate claims.

  • Accurately abstract required clinical and patient information from medical records.

  • Maintain a current understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, APC, NCCI, and other applicable outpatient coding guidelines.

  • Consistently meet established productivity and quality expectations, including a 95% or higher quality standard.

  • Participate in training, team meetings, and client meetings as needed.

  • Collaborate with client teams and other stakeholders to address coding questions and documentation issues.

  • Stay current on coding updates, regulatory changes, and client-specific requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a knowledgeable and motivated coding professional who has hands-on experience with hospital outpatient facility coding, particularly Same Day Surgery and/or Emergency Department coding.

Required Qualifications

  • Active AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.

  • At least 1 year of recent outpatient facility coding experience, with experience relevant to the patient type being hired for within the last 6 months.

  • Experience coding Same Day Surgery and/or Emergency Department facility services.

  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding.

  • Ability to accurately interpret clinical documentation and apply appropriate coding guidelines.

  • Ability to meet established productivity expectations while maintaining a 95% or greater quality level.

  • Successful completion of applicable pre-employment coding assessments with a score of 80% or higher.

You’ll Stand Out If You Have

  • Experience with hospital-based outpatient facility coding.

  • Strong SDS/ambulatory surgery coding experience.

  • Strong Emergency Department facility coding experience.

  • Experience with APC validation and outpatient reimbursement.

  • Knowledge of NCCI edits and claims scrubber processes.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

  • The ability to manage productivity and quality expectations in a deadline-driven environment.
