Job description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

We're looking for a Solutions Engineer to join our rapidly growing Sales team with a specific focus on VoIP and unified communications.

This is a specialized track within our Solutions Engineering team dedicated to the technical demands of telephony, including porting, network readiness, hardware provisioning, and telecom regulatory requirements, layered on top of the core Solutions Engineer skill set.

This role is for someone with a positive attitude, growth mindset, and a sense of ownership to take projects from ideation to completion. As an excellent communicator who is naturally curious and able to explain complex technical solutions to various stakeholders, you will serve as a partner to our Account Executives to help support and close business. You will be able to support a full sales cycle, beginning at technical scoping and solution architecture in presales all the way through proper handoff to the Customer Success teams, with particular depth in voice/UCaaS technical validation, migration planning, and competitive positioning against established VoIP and UCaaS providers.

What your team does

Our Solutions Engineering team is the swiss army knife of our entire sales organization. With hybrid skill sets, they serve as the technical encyclopedia communicating how the product, platform, channel, and competitive landscape operates and solves specific problems while articulating value to the customer. This role adds dedicated VoIP/telephony depth to that team, serving as the person best equipped to answer how things actually work, from call routing and number porting to network readiness and desk phone provisioning.

What you'll work on

  • Provide business value and technical sales support for assigned opportunities for VoIP/telephony related deals.

  • Collaborate closely with Sales to clearly articulate: Clio Cloud communication capabilities and App Ecosystem integration partners.

  • Understand competitive landscape and differentiation, migration services, and industry best practices.

  • Serve as the technical lead and owner of technical deal strategy, including VoIP-specific scoping such as number porting complexity, network readiness, hardware/desk phone requirements, and multi-office or high call-volume routing needs.

  • Strategize with Sales to create business value, drive urgency, and contribute to revenue goals.

  • Enable Sales to deliver targeted, business-value driven VoIP/telephony demonstrations, and meetings.

  • Guide prospects and customers through VoIP migration planning, including porting timelines, cutover sequencing, carrier-specific considerations (e.g. migrating off RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone, 8x8, Ooma, or an on-prem PBX), and hardware provisioning.

  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource on telecom regulatory and compliance topics relevant to presales conversations (e.g. E911, number portability, call recording and consent considerations), directing customers to Legal/Compliance for anything requiring a definitive answer.

  • Stay on top of industry news, AI tools, technology products, platforms, and partners to ensure you and your team provide deep industry and ecosystem expertise, including the broader UCaaS/VoIP competitive landscape.

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Customer Success, and Engineering teams to help collect, document, communicate, and influence product roadmap based on market/customer requirements.

What you may have

  • 2+ years of experience working as a Solutions Engineer (or other relevant experience) for a SaaS provider.

  • Working knowledge of VoIP/telephony fundamentals, including concepts like SIP, codecs, call routing, number porting, and the general shape of network requirements (bandwidth, latency, jitter), well enough to speak to them credibly with technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.

  • Creative problem solver with a proven track record of success.

  • Ambitious, curious mindset to always work to find creative solutions to difficult problems.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate telephony/network concepts into plain language business value.

  • Hungry to learn and help team deliver on ambitious goals in supporting the sales organization to meet revenue targets.

  • Comfortable delivering technical sales presentations, product positioning, and objection handling, including confidently addressing questions about call quality, network readiness, hardware compatibility, and migration risk.

  • Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including IT/technical contacts at prospect firms.

  • Strong technical experience and understanding of cloud technologies, including APIs and security infrastructure.

Serious bonus points if you:

  • Have direct experience with VoIP, UCaaS, or telephony platforms (e.g. RingCentral, Dialpad, Zoom Phone, 8x8, Ooma, Vonage, VXT) in a Sales Engineering, implementation, or technical support capacity.

  • Have hands-on experience with number porting processes, SIP trunking, or desk phone/hardware provisioning (e.g. Yealink, Polycom).

  • Are familiar with telecom regulatory requirements such as E911, STIR/SHAKEN, or 10DLC registration.

  • Have exposure to CCaaS/contact center concepts (ACD, skills-based or dynamic call routing, queuing, agent-level call reporting), useful for speaking credibly with higher-volume or multi-office firms whose needs extend beyond standard business telephony.

  • Have familiarity with open-source telephony platforms or similar softswitch/PBX architectures.

  • Demonstrate a keen interest in improving your craft by using AI.
