The AI Counsel will serve as a subject matter expert and strategic legal advisor on artificial intelligence and related technologies across Danaher, serving as a bridge between legal, technical teams, and business leadership on AI-related matters.


This role combines regulatory, data use, contracting, and governance support responsibilities in connection with the deployment of AI solutions across the Danaher organization.  The role will partner with business functions and other members of Danaher’s Legal and Compliance Team to provide timely, business-oriented legal services in support of AI initiatives across Danaher, balancing legal risk with operational needs.

This position report to the Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and Secretary. There is a preference for candidates who can work on-site in Washington, DC. While this req is posted as on-site in the US, applications from qualified candidates in other US locations will be considered equally.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as Danaher’s lead legal advisor on AI, providing guidance on AI regulations, privacy, healthcare, technology, and intellectual property considerations while identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks.
  • Partner with product, engineering, data science, and privacy teams to embed legal, privacy, and compliance requirements into the design, development, deployment, and governance of AI systems.
  • Lead privacy and data governance support for AI initiatives, including privacy-by-design, data sharing, cross-border data transfers, DPIAs, Records of Processing Activity, and risks related to data pooling, secondary use, and automated decision-making.
  • Provide legal support for AI-related contracting and vendor management, including AI platforms, SaaS solutions, data licensing, and data-sharing agreements; develop standard templates and evaluate third-party AI risks and compliance obligations.
  • Serve as legal counsel for Danaher’s AI Governance program, overseeing AI risk assessments, supporting executive reviews and approval processes, and partnering with Enterprise Data Strategy leadership to ensure responsible and compliant AI adoption.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, or equivalent legal degree; Minimum of 8 years of legal experience
  • Licensed member of the bar in good standing in the relevant jurisdiction
  • Experience with technology contracting and legal/regulatory compliance, including working directly with technical teams
  • Substantial familiarity with AI and privacy laws and regulation, risk management and governance; experience advising on such matters preferred. IAPP AI and privacy certification, or equivalent, obtained or in progress preferred
  • Strong drafting skills and keen attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice

The salary range for this role is $200,000-$230,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
