As the State Sales Manager, you'll be responsible for leading California's sales growth strategy while ensuring underwriting profitability and agency engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute state-level sales strategies that drive premium growth and market share
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Territory Sales Managers throughout California
  • Strengthen and expand relationships with independent agents, brokers, and key industry partners
  • Manage strategic agency accounts and support agency development efforts
  • Analyze production trends, market conditions, and competitive activity to identify growth opportunities
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Product, and Executive Leadership to achieve business objectives
  • Provide market intelligence and strategic recommendations regarding industry trends and competitor activity
  • Drive accountability for production goals and overall business results
  • Travel throughout California to support agency relationships and business development initiatives

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a sales leader who understands how to balance growth, relationships, and profitability.

Must have qualifications: 

  • 10+ years of insurance sales experience
  • 5+ years of sales management experience
  • Strong understanding of the California specialty auto insurance market
  • Established relationships with independent agency owners, brokers, and industry associations
  • Demonstrated success growing profitable business through agency distribution channels
  • Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Strong analytical and business planning abilities
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to interpret business results and develop actionable growth plans
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/sales technology platforms

Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.

Working Conditions

  • Exempt position.
  • Remote-based role with regular travel throughout California.
  • Frequent interaction with agency partners, brokers, internal business partners, and leadership teams.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Travel requirements will vary based on business needs and agency support initiatives.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, phone, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, virtually, and over the telephone.
  • Ability to travel by car and/or air throughout California as business needs dictate.
  • Occasionally lift or carry materials up to 15 pounds.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
