Job description

Who Are You?

NovoEd is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. This highly visible role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a high-growth environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter and clear communicator who is comfortable working with systems and consistently looks for process improvements.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role for an accounting professional ready to take ownership at the Senior Accountant level. As an integral member of the Finance team, the Senior Accountant will contribute to all aspects of accounting operations and support a variety of projects as NovoEd scales. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, manages competing priorities effectively, and balances individual ownership with broader team objectives. This position reports to the Finance Manager.

What Will You Do?

  • Own and complete the monthly and quarterly close processes, including accounts receivable and payable, payroll, fixed assets and prepaids, cash management and bank reconciliations, accruals, and journal entry processing.
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll. Set up and maintain employee records in the payroll system. Prepare related journal entries and reconcile payroll-related GL accounts.
  • Create and send out customer invoices, collect customer invoices, and meet with the Financial Manager regularly to discuss past due invoices and expected payments.
  • Support tax and compliance filings, including sales tax, 1099 reporting, and benefits compliance testing. Prepare audit schedules and provide audit support.
  • Document, implement, and maintain appropriate accounting policies, processes, and internal controls.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that scale and automate manual procedures and calculations. Support Finance systems implementations and automation efforts, strengthen data quality, and help make the close more efficient and predictable.
  • Prepare monthly reporting packages for Management.
  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative variance analysis and report monthly and quarterly for presentation to management.
  • Assist in the review of customer contracts and determining appropriate revenue recognition treatment.
  • Administer the following systems: Ramp (for A/P, Corporate Cards, and employee expense reimbursements), TriNet (payroll/employee records), Fidelity (401K contribution deposits), Egencia (travel portal for company).
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to other Finance partners and complete special projects, reports, and analyses on an ad hoc basis as assigned by management.

What Skills Are Needed For This Role?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience required, including general ledger,  AP/Accruals, and month-end close responsibilities.
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll-related general ledger reconciliations is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including ASC 606.
  • CPA (active or intending to pursue licensure) is preferred but not required.
  • Public accounting experience is desired but not required.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong drive to grow and succeed.
  • Familiarity with Rillet, Ramp, Box/DropBox, TriNet, and/or QBO is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups, pivot tables, reconciliations, and analysis of large data sets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth start-up environment.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through in a deadline-driven environment.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset and the ability to distinguish routine processing from issues that require escalation or technical review.
