POSITION SUMMARY

A Material Handler supports production by safely moving, staging, and handling raw materials, chemicals, packaging, and finished goods throughout the facility. This role ensures accurate material flow, proper storage practices, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This role works closely with Mixing, Production, and Quality teams to maintain efficient and uninterrupted manufacturing operations. To be successful in the role, a Material Handler needs to be safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast paced, process-driven environment. Located at our Fort Scott, Kansas site, the Material Handler reports to the Warehouse Supervisor.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

A Material Handler is responsible for but not limited to the following:

Material Handling & Movement

  • Be fully trained on all areas of the production areas as a Material Handler
  • Safely unloads, receives, and stores raw materials, chemicals, and packaging components.
  • Supplies mixing and production lines with required materials according to batch sheets and schedules.
  • Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, drum handlers, and other material‑handling equipment.
  • Transfers materials between storage areas, staging zones, and production lines.
  • Loads and unloads trucks following all safety and documentation guidelines.

Inventory & Documentation

  • Accurately records material movements in ERP or inventory systems.
  • Performs physical counts and cycle counts as required.
  • Ensures proper labeling, tracking, and identification of all materials and containers.
  • Maintains accurate batch staging records and raw material usage logs.
  • Communicates low inventory levels or discrepancies to the Warehouse or Production Supervisor.

Chemical Handling & Compliance

  • Follows all chemical handling procedures, including proper PPE and spill‑control requirements.
  • Handles drums, totes, bags, and containers containing hazardous chemicals safely and efficiently.
  • Adheres to OSHA, EPA, and internal environmental and safety regulations.
  • Reads and follows SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and understand chemical compatibility requirements.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Maintains a clean, organized warehouse and production staging area.
  • Follows all PPE requirements, including respirator use if required.
  • Assists in spill responses and follows proper containment procedures.
  • Reports unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, and near‑misses immediately.

Equipment Operation & Care

  • Inspects forklifts, hoists, and material-handling equipment before use.
  • Performs minor equipment checks and reports maintenance needs.
  • Assists Maintenance or Production when moving equipment, pallets, or materials for repairs.

Production Support

  • Stages raw materials for mixers and operators according to batch order requirements.
  • Disposes of empty containers following waste-handling protocols.
  • Assists in packaging and labeling finished materials when needed.
  • Supports line changeovers, tank cleaning preparation, and raw material returns.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of work related experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or chemical environment.
  • Forklift certification
  • Experience with forklifts, pallet jacks, drum lifts, and similar equipment.
  • Understanding of inventory control and warehouse operations.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with ERP systems is a plus

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

A Material Handler is required to perform the following essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Follow all safety requirements including wearing the appropriate PPE (contact lenses prohibited on the production floor)
  • Move around production floor for prolonged periods of time
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Read and follow work instructions, batch records, and safety documentation.
  • Work around chemicals, industrial equipment, and various environmental conditions.
  • Repeated bending, lifting, and manual handling of materials.
  • Climb stairs and ladders on process equipment.
  • Operate tools, valves, and controls requiring manual dexterity.

The expected compensation range for this position is between $47,950.00 and $70,323.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
