Job description

Join Clario, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific and help build the intelligent quality engineering solutions that support enterprise clinical trial technology. As a Senior Engineer, R&D Software Quality, you will lead the design and development of scalable test automation for a microservices-based platform, with a core focus on using artificial intelligence to improve test coverage, efficiency, and insight. Working closely with Product Management, Software Development, DevOps, and Quality Engineering teams, you will shape testing strategy, solve complex technical challenges, and help deliver reliable, high-quality software that supports clinical research worldwide.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Serve as a senior technical contributor within the Software Quality Engineering team.

  • Review product requirements and engineering specifications to define test strategies, scope testing effort, and identify quality risks.

  • Create detailed test plans combining manual testing, automated validation, and risk-based coverage.

  • Architect, develop, and maintain automation frameworks, scripts, and libraries for web, application programming interface, and mobile applications.

  • Apply AI-assisted approaches to test design, script development, failure analysis, maintenance, and quality improvement.

  • Establish repeatable testing methods that support parallel product development and automation delivery.

  • Test microservices-based solutions through functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.

  • Troubleshoot failures by analyzing application logs, test environments, service behavior, and database results using SQL.

  • Collaborate with software developers, system administrators, database administrators, Product Management, and DevOps teams to resolve quality issues.

  • Maintain test cases, requirements traceability, execution evidence, and defects within test management tools.

  • Review automation and testing work completed by less experienced engineers, providing technical guidance, training, and constructive feedback.

  • Identify root causes of quality problems and drive corrective actions through completion.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing tools, automation practices, development processes, and team standards.

  • Communicate quality status, risks, findings, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We Look For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of software quality engineering or software testing experience.

  • Strong experience designing and maintaining automated tests for web, API, or mobile applications.

  • Proficiency with JavaScript, SQL, and automation tools such as Selenium, Katalon, Playwright, or comparable technologies.

  • Practical understanding of AI-assisted software testing, automation development, or quality analysis.

  • Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and functional, integration, system, and regression testing techniques.

  • Experience working directly with software developers to investigate and resolve complex test failures.

  • Familiarity with test and defect management platforms; Polarion experience is advantageous.

  • Experience with Agile development practices; knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework practices is advantageous.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, cloud-based solutions, microservices, and regulated software environments is preferred.

  • Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11 and current Good Practice requirements is advantageous.

  • Strong analytical, mentoring, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Professional fluency in English.

  • Ability to travel occasionally, if required.
