Citizenship / Access Requirements: Must satisfy all VA credentialing, privileging, suitability, PIV, privacy, information-security, occupational-health, and facility-access requirements applicable to the position.

Security Requirements: No classified clearance is specified. VA background/suitability screening, credentialing, PIV/access procedures, and required privacy and information-security training apply.

Estimated Compensation: $65.87 per hour.

Working Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with flexibility for unscheduled patients, consultations, interruptions, and continuity of care.

Work Arrangement: Primarily on-site at the Manhattan and Brooklyn VA campuses. Limited clinical telehealth may be provided through VA-approved platforms when directed by the COR; this is not general work-from-home authorization.

Travel: Occasional travel between the Manhattan and Brooklyn VA campuses may be required based on patient volume.

Period of Performance: September 30, 2026 through September 29, 2031, including four option periods.

Summary of Services

The Doctoral-Level Pain Psychologist will provide comprehensive behavioral-health services for veterans with chronic pain. The position includes psychological assessment, evidence-based psychotherapy and behavioral-medicine interventions, interdisciplinary consultation, treatment planning, patient and family education, telehealth when authorized, outcome monitoring, and timely VA clinical documentation.

Mandatory Qualifications

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited doctoral program.

Successful completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited predoctoral psychology internship.

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice psychology in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

At least two years of professional psychologist experience, including at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 level and experience delivering behavioral-health interventions for chronic pain.

Current Basic Life Support certification.

National Provider Identifier and ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging requirements.

Fluency in spoken and written English and proficiency with VA clinical systems and approved telehealth platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct psychological evaluations and assessments for veterans experiencing chronic pain and related behavioral-health concerns.

Develop, implement, monitor, and revise individualized behavioral pain-management treatment plans.

Provide evidence-based psychotherapy, behavioral medicine, coping-skills training, and chronic-pain interventions.

Educate patients and families regarding pain psychology, self-management, treatment goals, and available resources.

Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, and other interdisciplinary pain-management team members.

Provide authorized telehealth services through VA-approved platforms when directed.

Document assessments, treatment, progress, outcomes, and recommendations accurately in VA clinical systems.

Participate in clinical meetings, care coordination, quality activities, required training, and performance monitoring.

Required Candidate Submission Documents

Current curriculum vitae detailing education, training, employment, VA experience, and pain-management experience.

Doctoral degree and accredited internship documentation.

Current unrestricted psychology license and Basic Life Support certification.

National Provider Identifier and credentialing/privileging documentation.

Malpractice-claim information, occupational-health documents, and OIG exclusion search results as required.
