Job description

We are looking for an early-career Software Developer to work on numerical wildfire behaviour modelling.

The ideal candidate has a background in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, with a strong logical and analytical mindset. 

RESPONSABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain software for wildfire and fire behaviour modelling.
  • Implement and test algorithms 
  • Work with scientific and numerical data and analyse modelling results.
  • Develop scripts and tools to automate simulations, testing, data processing, and analysis.
  • Participate in software testing, debugging, validation, and performance analysis.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or background in Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Candidates from Computer Science will also be considered. 
  • Good knowledge of Python and C#.
  • Basic Knowledge of C++ and willing to learn. 
  • Strong logical and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to understand mathematical and scientific concepts and apply them to software.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux command line since part of the job is done in HPC environments..
  • Ability and willingness to use AI coding tools as part of the development process.
  • Ability to learn and work with an existing codebase.
  • Experience with Git and software testing
  • Interest in working with scientific modelling and simulation methods. The modelling methods used in the project are generally not highly complex numerical methods such as the Finite Element Method (FEM), Level Set Method, or similar advanced techniques. 

NICE TO HAVE

  • Basic experience using supercomputers / HPC environments.
  • Basic knowledge of Scrum / Agile.
  • Experience with scientific computing, numerical modelling, simulations, or data analysis.
  • Knowledge of wildfire or fire behaviour modelling.
