Job Description:
Role Summary:
The Sr. Director, Site Engagement is OneR’s senior practice-facing operational leader for the OneR network. Reporting to the VP, Research, this role partners closely with community practices, investigators, and research leaders to strengthen research execution, improve enrollment and study delivery, support regulatory and financial performance, and expand patient access to clinical trials.
The Senior Director directly leads and develops the Site Network Manager team and additional site- and study-operations functions as the organization evolves. Although the role does not manage practice-employed research staff, it drives performance through trusted relationships, operational expertise, clear mutual commitments, and effective coordination across the network. The Senior Director is accountable for the quality of site relationships, the effectiveness of operational support, site readiness and capability, timely resolution of barriers, and the enrollment and study-delivery outcomes that result.
OneOncology’s research platform is growing rapidly, with multiple sites expected to double their respective programs over the next year. This individual will be critical to ensuring the success of these sites in maturing their operations to provide expanded patient access and clinical outcomes. This role requires exceptional judgment, resilience, and interpersonal skill, as it serves as the primary interface between a fast‑growing enterprise research platform and independent, highly autonomous community oncology practices with diverse needs, expectations, and operating models.
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic and operational leadership for assigned site- and study-operations functions, establishing clear accountabilities, performance expectations, operating practices, and priorities aligned with OneR’s goals.
Serve as OneR’s senior operational relationship leader for community practices, building trusted partnerships with practice leadership, investigators, and research teams and ensuring site needs are understood, coordinated, and addressed.
Lead, coach, and develop the Site Network Manager team and other assigned operational staff, creating a culture of ownership, proactive problem-solving, accountability, collaboration, and service to the practices.
Design and implement a scalable site-support model based on practice maturity, performance, complexity, growth objectives, and support needs, with clear engagement cadences, service expectations, and escalation pathways.
Assessing site-level research infrastructure and supporting sites with space planning, vendor management, or operational workflows to drive growth or improve research efficiency.
Partnering with site physician and operational leadership to develop and implement staffing plans and staff training to support research growth.
Partnering with OneR’s Program Management team and Site Physician Leadership to ensure site’s trial menu is aligned to operational capabilities, performance goals, and patient population.
Establish accountability for site and study performance, including readiness, enrollment, study delivery, quality, financial sustainability, relationship health, and timely resolution of operational issues.
Identify barriers to patient identification, enrollment, and study execution and drive practical solutions by clarifying the problem, convening the appropriate stakeholders, establishing owners and timelines, escalating material risks with recommendations, and confirming resolution with the site.
Own OneR’s site-facing training, onboarding, and capability-development strategy, ensuring programs address site needs, organizational priorities, and the competencies required for high-quality research execution.
Develop and maintain a scalable, role-based learning framework spanning new-hire onboarding, research-process and system readiness, study-specific preparation, leadership development, and ongoing professional growth.
Partner with internal subject-matter experts and practice leaders to develop and deliver accurate, practical training; establish measures of participation, adoption, competency, and operational impact to continuously improve program effectiveness.
Lead the development, launch, and stabilization of new or expanding site-level research programs, partnering with practice leadership to assess readiness, establish infrastructure and operating plans, define milestones, and build sustainable research capabilities.
Maintain a current, integrated view of site priorities, capacity, performance, and emerging risks; translate site intelligence and performance data into recommendations that inform operational, portfolio, and investment decisions.
Partner across OneR and the broader organization to clarify ownership and handoffs, coordinate support for practices, resolve cross-functional barriers, and ensure commitments to sites are fulfilled.
Identify and leverage expertise across the network by sharing effective practices, creating peer-learning opportunities, and building mechanisms for collaboration and knowledge exchange among research leaders.
Develop and monitor meaningful performance measures, identify trends and opportunities, and provide clear, actionable reporting to leadership and other stakeholders.
Perform additional responsibilities as needed to advance OneR’s mission of improving the lives of everyone living with cancer.
Required or Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 8+ years of experience in clinical research with significant site-level leadership experience, preferably in oncology
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide multidisciplinary teams effectively.
Direct, hands-on site-level experience as a site research manager or site director required.
Demonstrated experience with patient enrollment strategy and patient recruitment in community research settings, oncology preferred
Experience managing or supporting multiple research sites or regions simultaneously.
Strong understanding of GCP, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards
Essential Competencies:
Deep understanding of clinical research operations within community oncology practice settings
Demonstrated ambition to grow and scale site-based clinical research programs
Executive presence and earned credibility — the ability to enter any room, whether with independent physicians, practice leaders, or senior stakeholders, and establish trust, authority, and respect through knowledge, consistency, and character rather than title or tenure.
Strong working knowledge of site-level regulatory, financial, and operational requirements
Experience serving as a single point of accountability for external stakeholders (sites, sponsors, PIs)
Ability to build trust and effective partnerships with physicians and site staff
Proven experience improving site performance, enrollment, and operational efficiency
Excellent communication, coaching, and change-management skills
