JOB TITLE: Epidemiologist I

POSITION NUMBER: 2608-17961-EPI-001

POSITION LOCATION: Atlanta, GA, USA

ANTICIPATED START DATE: 4-6 weeks after candidate identification

TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Mycotic Diseases Branch (MDB), Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide epidemiological and laboratory capacity support.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Epidemiologist I will participate as a team member with MDB staff to provide written materials, determining that deliverables are being provided on time and within budget, and organizing periodic conference calls with Contractor to assess progress.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide expert knowledge of infectious disease surveillance (i.e. Valley Fever) to design and update surveillance systems.
  • Coordinate and provide quality control audits of data. Work will include coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Develop case report forms, user guides, and surveillance databases using REDCap software, SAS and R.
  • Verify human subjects' documents are submitted; tracking continuations and due dates.
  • Perform data analysis, including preparation of 2x2 tables and graphs.
  • Write manuscript drafts and meeting abstracts, approximately 2-5 per year.
  • Design sessions or workshops on fungal diseases at international conferences, approximately 2-5 per year.
  • Develop communication debriefs to update the Mycotic Diseases Branch, and other interested CDC parties on development and activities for Valley Fever and other endemic fungal pathogens.
Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master of Public Health (MPH), or Master's degree with a concentration in public health.

Required:

  • 2-4 years of work experience in public health.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Quantitative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational, intrapersonal, writing and speaking skills for working with an interdisciplinary team including scientific and non-scientific collaborators.
  • Experience preparing written documents and giving oral presentations.
  • Strong analytic skills using large databases; experience with analytic programs such as SAS and with RedCap surveillance questionnaire program.

Desirable:

  • Strong background in data management and program evaluation.
  • Global health and health communication experience is desirable.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

REQUIREMENT: Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
