As a Manager of Quality Assurance at Appfire, you will lead a team of QA engineers responsible for ensuring high-quality, reliable software products. You will shape the team’s roadmap, manage priorities and resources, and drive improvements across test automation, frameworks, and quality processes. You’ll partner closely with engineering and cross-functional teams to embed testing earlier in the development lifecycle and promote strong practices around code health, testability, and maintainability. A key focus of the role is developing a high-performing, psychologically safe team through coaching, mentoring, clear expectations, and continuous improvement. This is a 100% remote opportunity.

What you’ll do:

  • Define the QA team roadmap, quarterly OKRs, priorities, and project plans, aligning them with wider engineering and business objectives.
  • Monitor quality, test coverage, test gaps, and productivity metrics, using data to identify opportunities and drive improvements.
  • Drive improvements to test framework architecture, automation, and coverage, promoting effective testing strategies and DevOps best practices.
  • Partner with engineering teams to shift testing earlier in the software development lifecycle and improve testability, maintainability, and overall code health.
  • Establish and promote QA best practices, including appropriate application of automation, the test pyramid, clean code, and sustainable quality processes.
  • Manage team capacity, staffing, workloads, tools, and priorities to ensure projects meet delivery timelines and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with functional managers, process and value stream leaders, and other stakeholders to drive organizational change and achieve shared business objectives.

What you’ll need:

  • Previous experience as a Software Engineer in Test, QA Engineer, or similar technical testing role, combined with people-management experience.
  • Proven experience leading and developing QA or test engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Strong experience with UI and API test automation, using tools such as Cypress, Selenium, WireMock, JMeter, or equivalent.
  • Experience defining and implementing test automation strategies aligned with DevOps and modern software development practices.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems, such as Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive quality improvements and organizational change.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience managing and collaborating with remote teams.
