About the role


This position manages focused initiatives set forth by the Group Leader and the Information Management department. Supports all critical enterprise database management systems (DBMS) for Oracle E-Business Suite, Peoplesoft, Hyperion, Kronos, Data Warehouse, and custom applications using Oracle database, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL, and technologies running in OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).

Responsibilities
  • Performs or directs to be performed all aspects of database administration for the assigned Database Management Systems, including space management, backup and recovery, real-time and historical performance monitoring, disaster recovery planning, security planning, proactive and reactive tuning, capacity planning, and problem troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Performs or directs to be performed all application administration functions related to the enterprise application being supported, including installation and upgrade, performance monitoring and tuning, capacity planning and problem troubleshooting and resolution
  • Proactively innovates and implements tailored database solutions, leads data modeling efforts, and actively contributes to all stages of database development.
  • Acts as "go-to” for issues regarding the enterprise application and the underlying DBMS consults and advises on all matters, including database requirements for ongoing and future projects; recommends hardware and software solutions. Works with vendor support to resolve issues in an effective and timely manner.
  • Enhances own knowledge of the enterprise application and underlying DBMS platform through formal training and professional reading. Adheres to change control standards and policies.
  • Proactive and reactive administration of the associated enterprise application as demonstrated by prevention and/or timely resolution of user issues. Continuous improvement in service and processes.
  • Demonstrable increase in knowledge and understanding of the enterprise application and the DBMS platform.

Qualifications
  • Oracle ERP e-Business Suite (EBS) - must have knowledge of Internet and Web technologies to enable databases to participate in Web-based applications. Examples of this type of technology include XML, Java, TCP/IP, Web servers, Web Services – Tomcat, WebLogic OA Core, firewalls, SSL, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle database, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, MySQL, Postgres, PL/SQL, Web Services – Tomcat, WebLogic, Microsoft Office, Autosys, Linux shell scripting, SVN – Version control software, Oracle ODI, OICS, OCI, Toad, etc.
  • Data modeling and database design – must possess the ability to create an efficient physical database design from a logical data model, create and manage database schema, and application specifications.
  • Backup and recovery – must be able to implement an appropriate database backup and recovery strategy based on data volatility and application availability requirements.
  • Performance management and tuning - must be able to proactively monitor the database environment and make changes to data structures, SQL, application logic or the Database Management subsystem to optimize performance.
  • Ensuring availability- must be able to ensure applications and data to be up and available 24x7.
  • Data security - ensure that only authorized users have access to data. This requires the implementation of a rigorous security infrastructure for production and test databases.
  • Capacity planning - must be prepared to support more data, more users, and more connections, and could predict growth based on application and data usage patterns and to implement the necessary database changes to accommodate the growth.
  • Extensible data type administration - must understand how these user-defined data types are implemented by the DBMS vendor and be able to implement and administer extended data types.
  • Storage management techniques - must understand the storage hardware and software, including how it interacts with the DBMS.
  • SQL code reviews and walk-thru – must possess in-depth SQL knowledge to understand and review SQL and host language programs and to recommend changes for optimization.
  • Procedural skills - must possess procedural skills to help design, debug, implement, and maintain stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions that are stored in the DBMS.
  • Behavioral (organizational skills, communication skills, etc.). Demonstrates a people-oriented personality with proactive and collaborative traits. Communication skills to effectively conduct job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work on projects and meet deadlines with little or no supervision.
  • Detail oriented and thorough and follow up on issues until resolved satisfactorily.


Education & Experience
  • BS Computer Science or equivalent; MS Computer Science preferred
  • The ideal candidate will have gained the appropriate experience in project management tools and procedures
  • 5 to 8 years' experience in most aspects of DBMS Information Management.

Travel
  • 10% overall; may be significantly higher during duration of a project
