The Role:  

Cart.com’s WMS-Core team is seeking a Lead Engineer to design, develop, and optimize our WMS Core technology solutions. You will play a key role in building and maintaining scalable software that powers the core WMS capability and also Automation integration of third-party vendors like PTL, INVATA, Locus etc. As a Lead engineer, you will collaborate cross-functionally to drive technical initiatives, improve system performance, and mentor junior engineers. 

What You’ll Do:

Own the architecture and design direction for the services the team ships, and write the design docs that get the team aligned before code starts.

Review pull requests daily. Use review as the main channel for raising the team's standards, not as a rubber stamp.

Mentor engineers through pairing, design feedback and walking them through production investigations.

Act as subject matter expert for warehouse Core and automation systems, for both engineering peers and warehouse operations.

Break operational problems into scoped, sequenced work with product and the engineering Leaders.

Maintain CI/CD pipelines and release mechanics so deployments stay routine and low touch.

Lead production investigations. Find the root cause, ship the fix and close the gap that let it through.

Support releases across multiple fulfillment centers with no disruption to daily operations.

Prepare for peak season through load testing, capacity planning and clear escalation paths.

What You’ve Done:

10 or more years writing production software, with recent hands-on time in the codebase.

Demonstrated technical leadership of a team, whether as tech lead, staff engineer or a manager who kept coding.

Deep production experience with C#, Python, Java , .NET Core, and with microservice architectures at scale.

Working knowledge of event streaming and messaging with Kafka, RabbitMQ or an equivalent platform.

Experience with both relational and document databases, for example SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and MongoDB, Postgres

Hands-on ownership of CI/CD pipelines, branching strategy and release mechanics.

Strong testing instincts, including test strategy, automation frameworks and code review practice.

Track record supporting production systems that operations teams depend on during business hours and peak periods.

Nice to Haves: 

Direct experience with warehouse management systems, fulfillment operations or parcel logistics.

Experience integrating warehouse automation equipment such as sort-to-light systems, conveyor controls or scanning devices.

Experience building or supporting mobile and handheld applications used by warehouse operators.

Experience working alongside distributed or offshore teams across time zones.

Cloud experience on AWS, with container orchestration in Kubernetes or Rancher.

Familiarity with observability tooling such as Kibana, SumoLogic or comparable platforms.

Experience owning a product end to end, including taking user feedback straight into the roadmap.

Observability: Kibana, SumoLogic, DataDog etc.
