Job description

Our mission:

At Open-Xchange (OX), we build OX App Suite, a modern web application for email and groupware trusted by millions of users worldwide. As a core part of our open-source portfolio, it enables secure digital communication and collaboration. As the global leader in open-source email and collaboration software, we develop solutions for enterprises, service providers, and public sector organizations around the world. Our software also plays a key role in advancing digital sovereignty across Europe, powering initiatives such as OpenDesk and deployments for the State of Schleswig-Holstein.

Discover what OX offers you:

  • We work in a non-hierarchical organization that empowers everyone to take responsibility, stay focused, and contribute directly to the company’s success and customer value.
  • We value expertise and continuous professional development. Our professionals work closely with experienced colleagues, take ownership of their work, and continuously expand their skills.
  • Openness and diversity are core to OX. Different perspectives, backgrounds, and ways of thinking strengthen our collaboration and help us see the bigger picture.

Your team:

You'll join the team behind OX App Suite, helping to build and evolve one of the world's leading open-source email and collaboration platforms.

Your new job:

  • Full-Stack Development with JavaScript/Node.js: Join the team behind OX App Suite and help shape the future of one of the world's leading open-source collaboration platforms. We work remotely across Germany with a high level of ownership and autonomy. Rather than following rigid role boundaries, we take collective responsibility for the entire development lifecycle—from architecture and implementation to testing, quality assurance, and deployment.
  • Cloud-Native Development with Kubernetes: Our platform runs as a distributed application on Kubernetes, serving millions of users across customer environments as well as our own cloud infrastructure.
  • Quality, Automation & Developer Tooling: CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, agentic coding, and long-term maintenance are an integral part of how we work. We believe quality is built into the development process—not added afterwards.

This is the tech stack you'll be working with:

Your background:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript and modern web architectures.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MariaDB or PostgreSQL.
  • Passion for designing intuitive APIs and user interfaces with a strong focus on usability.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, contribute ideas, and collaborate effectively within a development team.
  • Fluent German and solid English communication skills.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with Vue.js, especially its reactivity system.
  • Experience with microservices, Kubernetes, container technologies, and cloud-native architectures.
  • A strong eye for UI design and user experience (UX).
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive software design.

This is what you get at OX:

  • The flexibility to work 100% remotely or from one of our offices ensures a work environment that suits you best.
  • Flexible working hours that allow you to successfully combine your home and family responsibilities with work.
  • Continuous opportunities for professional and personal growth through learning, collaboration, and working in an international team.
  • Getting together in-person for workshops and fun team events.
  • Time off to volunteer – and mental health support when you need it.
  • Attractive benefits, including digital meal vouchers, corporate discounts, subsidies for ergonomic home office equipment, Urban Sports membership, bike leasing, and a company pension plan.
