Job description

What we are looking for? We are looking for Digital Prescribing Pharmacists who are able to commit to a minimum of 16 hours a week to provide virtual consultations via our intuitive platform, delivering high quality care to our patients.

Working as an autonomous non-medical independent prescriber, you will assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of primary care conditions, including minor ailments, long-term condition monitoring, medicines optimisation and complex polypharmacy reviews. This role is well-suited to individuals with a strong foundation in general practice or community primary care settings. In particular, experience diagnosing and managing minor illnesses would be beneficial.

Salary based on 40 hours FTE: £55,000

Salaried Sessions: We offer fixed shifts and sessions (minimum of 16 hours a week) that can be divided throughout the week based on your preferred hours, along with optional additional 'ad-hoc' shifts, from 8am-8pm across the week

Requirements

Clinical Practice

  • Conduct independent, autonomous consultations (video, telephone and asynchronous) for patients presenting with minor ailments and undifferentiated primary care conditions.
  • Assess, diagnose and manage acute presentations including URTIs, UTIs, skin conditions and ear, nose and throat conditions within agreed clinical scope.
  • Issue prescriptions independently as a qualified non-medical independent prescriber (NMP), in line with GPhC standards and DCA's prescribing governance framework.
  • Ability to review clinical information and prescribe asynchronously for a range of primary care conditions.
  • Refer appropriately to GPs, ACPs, or specialist services where presentations fall outside autonomous scope.

Medicines Safety & Governance

  • Adhere to DCA's clinical governance framework, including compliance with CQC standards and regulated activity requirements.
  • Contribute to medicines safety reviews, significant event analyses (SEAs) and audit activity as required.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records using DCA's digital clinical systems, ensuring documentation meets medico-legal standards.
  • Support antibiotic stewardship initiatives and rational prescribing programmes across the clinical workforce.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision, peer review, and quality assurance activities.

Education & Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively within DCA's multidisciplinary clinical team, providing pharmacist expertise and medicines support to GPs, ACPs, and other clinicians.
  • Contribute to service improvement projects, clinical pathway development and digital innovation initiatives.
  • Attend DCA education and MDT events and engage with training opportunities in digital health at DCA.

Safeguarding

  • To promote a culture of patient – centred and good professional practice relating to the safeguarding of adults, young person’s and children at risk
  • To actively implement safeguarding protocols for children, young persons, and vulnerable adults and to know who to refer to and how to escalate concerns about radicalisation
  • To ensure that provisions in relation to all Mental Health Legislation including the Mental Health Act 2007, Mental Capacity Act 2005), are implemented in accordance with the legislative requirements, Codes of Practice requirements and National and Government Guidance

Education/Training/Experience

  • MPharm degree (or equivalent) with current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Qualified Independent Prescriber (IP) (1 year minimum independent prescribing experience) with annotation recorded on the GPhC register. Must be able to prescribe autonomously from day one.
  • Minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience working in a primary care setting (GP practice, PCN, community pharmacy with primary care contract, or equivalent).
  • Completed the CPPE Care Pharmacy Education Pathway
  • Demonstrable experience in autonomous management of minor ailments and undifferentiated primary care presentations without GP supervision
  • Experience conducting remote patient assessments (phone and video) (Desirable)

Knowledge/Skills

  • Proficiency with clinical IT systems (ideally with Jira and Teams/Slack).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage deadlines
  • Commitment to patient-centred care and ongoing professional development.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to proficiently document patient consultations according to organizational policy and national guidelines
  • Ability to recognize individual learning needs and actively seek professional development opportunities in line with local and national frameworks (e.g., GPhC revalidation requirements).
  • Ability to act as a professional role model, demonstrating organizational values and behaviours.
  • Skill in sharing knowledge and evidence-based insights to support team development and quality care
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • A patient-centred approach ensuring high levels of patient satisfaction and clinical care.
