Job description

About Giga

Giga is building gigawatts of AI data centers to hasten a future of intelligence and abundance. We build data centers fast and at scale by combining the capabilities of an equipment supplier, engineering firm, general contractor, and real estate developer under one roof. Our team moves quickly and thinks practically. If you're ready to make an impact in an industry that matters, we're looking for people like you.

Why join Giga

  • The Pace: We're building at a speed most companies talk about but never actually operate at. If you've been bored somewhere else, you won't be here.
  • The Impact: Every person at Giga touches the work that matters. No layers, no waiting for approval chains. You'll see your fingerprints on what we ship.
  • The Team: A team of operators defining the future of AI infrastructure. We recruit A-players from the most innovative companies in the world, and they choose Giga because the work here means more.
  • The Moment: AI doesn't run without power, and that's us. Giga is the picks and shovels behind the AI revolution. This industry is about to explode, and you'll be in the room where it's already happening.

What you'll do

As an Electrical Designer, you'll draw the power systems that make our sites real. Working alongside our electrical engineers, you'll take load lists, one-lines, and equipment selections and turn them into complete, buildable design packages — site power distribution, grounding, raceway, cabling, and equipment layouts for data center and power generation projects. AutoCAD is where you'll live and where we need real depth; you'll also work in Revit to coordinate your design in 3D against the other disciplines, so you need to be comfortable in a model even though modeling isn't the job. This is a hands-on production role with real ownership: you'll own packages end to end rather than picking up scraps, and you'll be doing it on projects that move faster than anything you've worked on before.

Where you'll work

Velocity matters when you're building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our San Francisco, Long Beach, or Houston offices, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

That said, we will make exceptions for truly exceptional talent if you live outside one of our hubs. If you're the right person for this role, we'll have a conversation about what works.

Responsibilities

  • Produce the electrical design package for data center and power generation sites: single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, grounding and lightning protection plans, raceway and cable tray routing, lighting and receptacle plans, panel schedules, cable and conduit schedules, and connection details.
  • Develop electrical site plans, ductbank and trench layouts, conduit routing, equipment pad layouts, and associated cable/conduit schedules.
  • Coordinate your design against the federated Revit model — navigating structural, mechanical, piping, and civil disciplines in 3D to catch conflicts and resolve clashes before they become field issues.
  • Develop and maintain medium-voltage distribution design from the utility or generation source through switchgear, transformers, and substation-to-skid interconnections.
  • Build and maintain the drawing set in AutoCAD to Giga standards: title blocks, layering, symbol libraries, xrefs, and revision control that hold up across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Support electrical design calculations that drive the drawings, including conductor and conduit sizing, voltage drop, load tabulations, ampacity and derating, under the direction of the responsible Electrical Engineer.
  • Route and size power, control, and instrumentation cabling between generation equipment, switchgear, transformers, and balance-of-plant loads.
  • Design to code and standard: NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 855, IEEE, NESC, and local AHJ requirements, including area classification where applicable.
  • Take vendor equipment submittals and turn them into design reality — verifying dimensions, terminations, clearances, and interface points against the layout before drawings go out.
  • Support permitting and utility interconnection by producing the drawings and exhibits those submittals require, and turning review comments around quickly.
  • Issue drawings through the company document control process in Autodesk Forma, participate in Bluebeam design reviews, and resolve reviewer comments on schedule.
  • Support Procurement with electrical bills of material, equipment schedules, and technical inputs to requisitions and bid evaluations.
  • Field-verify existing conditions, incorporate construction redlines, and produce accurate as-built drawings at project close.
  • Answer RFIs from construction and field crews with clear, buildable direction, and get to site when the drawings need eyes on the real thing.
  • Work directly with the responsible Electrical Engineer on design intent, and take a package from concept through IFC with minimal hand-holding.
  • Contribute to Giga's design standards, templates, and detail library so the next project starts further ahead than the last one.
  • Support constructability and cost reviews, flagging where a design decision will hurt schedule, price, or maintainability.
  • Perform other electrical design tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of electrical design experience on industrial, utility, power generation, energy storage, data center, or heavy commercial facility projects.
  • Advanced AutoCAD skills — this is the primary design and production tool for the role, and we expect real depth here.
  • Able to read, navigate, and coordinate within Revit models for multi-discipline clash detection. You do not need to be a Revit modeler, deep modeling experience is a bonus, not a requirement.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a design from concept through IFC — you've owned drawing packages, not just drafted someone else's markups.
  • Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70 and applicable electrical design standards.
  • Solid grasp of medium- and low-voltage power distribution: switchgear, transformers, protective devices, grounding, and cabling systems.
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and P&IDs, and reconciling them against the design.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive), and able to work within a formal document control system such as Autodesk Forma and Bluebeam Revu  or learn one fast.
  • High school diploma required; associate degree, technical certificate, or Bachelor's in electrical engineering technology or a related field preferred, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and vendors.
  • Able to work under the direction of the Electrical Engineering lead and Project/Program Managers with minimal oversight, across several active projects at once.
  • Willing to travel to project sites and fabrication facilities as needed.

Bonus points

  • Experience on hyperscale or colocation data center projects.
  • Experience with gas turbine or reciprocating engine generation, BESS installations, or substation design.
  • Exposure to ETAP or SKM for load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies.
  • Experience with Revit family creation, Dynamo, or AutoCAD scripting to speed up repetitive design work.
  • Familiarity with protection and control drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience supporting field construction and commissioning directly.

How We Work

We value people who take ownership, raise risks early, communicate directly, and follow through. Incomplete information is part of the job. Make the best decision you can, document it, and adjust as the facts change. Move quickly on reversible decisions and take more care when security, safety, financial, employee, or customer risk is involved.

Benefits

  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Commuter benefits, where applicable
  • Opportunities to collaborate in person at periodic team and company on-sites
