Job description

The Non-Franchise Used Vehicle Director will be responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the activities of the Used Vehicle Sales Departments for multiple locations in achieving used vehicle unit sales and PVR.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Leadership & Vision Execution
  • Set clear expectations, objectives, and performance goals for used vehicle sales and gross profit across all stores in the market.
  • Drive operational consistency, compliance, and process execution across the Market.
  • Inventory Strategy & Pricing Optimization
  • Analyze market data and trends to ensure stores maintain a balanced inventory mix tailored to local demand.
  • Optimize inventory aging and pricing to market using internal tools and market intelligence.
  • Facilitate inter-store vehicle transfers to maximize retail opportunities and reduce aging.
  • Performance Analysis & Operational Excellence
  • Conduct regular business to assess KPIs, identify shortfalls, and implement corrective action plans.
  • Evaluate speed-to-market metrics and reconditioning cycle times; partner with Service Directors to streamline processes.
  • Champion merchandising best practices, ensuring all AutoNation branding and digital presentation standards are met.
  • Support store leaders in managing all customer traffic channels: showroom, e-commerce, and phone.
  • Financial & Trade-In Strategy
  • Guide trade appraisal strategy and trade-in retention targets across stores.
  • Partner with General Managers and Sales Managers to ensure alignment on retail and acquisition strategies.

  • Success in this role is measured by:
  • Achievement of market-wide used vehicle sales and gross profit targets
  • Inventory turn and speed-to-market performance
  • Trade appraisal volume and retention metrics
  • Associate performance, engagement, and retention
  • Execution of AutoNation operational processes and compliance standards


Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 7+ years of automotive sales management experience with 3+ years in multi-store leadership preferred
  • Proven success in used vehicle operations, inventory strategy, and retail execution
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Experience with dealership technology platforms (CRM, DMS, inventory and pricing tools)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
