At ChristianaCare, clear communication is essential to safe, high-quality care. Our Language Services team helps ensure that patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) can understand, participate in, and make informed decisions about their healthcare.

We are seeking a Casual Spanish Medical Interpreter to support patients and caregivers.

Professional interpretation is an important part of patient safety, health equity, and the patient experience at ChristianaCare. Our Language Services team provides a full spectrum of language support for our culturally diverse patient population and is a licensed training organization for The Community Interpreter®.

As a Medical Interpreter, you’ll work alongside physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, using your language expertise to help patients and families have a voice in their care.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide accurate and complete interpretation between Spanish and English during medical appointments, assessments, family meetings, informed consent discussions, patient education, procedures, psychiatric and social work consultations, and palliative and end-of-life conversations.

  • Accurately interpret medical terminology and sensitive healthcare information while preserving the meaning and intent of the communication.

  • Serve as a linguistic and cultural resource for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

  • Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries in accordance with ChristianaCare policies and the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

  • Maintain flexibility to support on-call and emergency needs across our hospitals.

Medical interpreting requires more than conversational fluency. We’re looking for professionals who can confidently and accurately interpret complex healthcare conversations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. An associate degree or college coursework in any area related to science or human services highly desired.

  • Advanced-High proficiency or above in Spanish and English

  • Successful completion of required language competency testing

  • Minimum 40-hour medical interpreter training program

  • Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, and cultural competency skills

  • National certification as a Medical or Healthcare Interpreter highly desired

  • Experience in a healthcare setting as a medical or healthcare interpreter, remote interpreting experience is a plus.

Hourly Pay Range: $23.85 - $35.78

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
